Chapter 13 Really compensated her?
Alina, though not particularly business-savvy, could sense the deteriorating relationship between Andre and Caleb. She furrowed her eyebrows and apologized, "I'm sorry."
"You don't have to apologize," Andre reassured her, reaching out to affectionately rub her soft hair.
Shortly after breakfast, Alina's phone continued to ring persistently. She answered the call, and her expression instantly soured. Andre noticed her change in demeanor, casually took a sip of water, and asked, "What's the message?"
"It's a money transfer notification," Alina replied. Andre nearly spit out his water in surprise. He understood Alina's financial situation well. While she had earned a decent income over the years, it was steady and fixed.
"Let me see." Andre swiftly snatched the phone from Alina's hand and examined it closely. The notifications indicated substantial amounts of money being deposited into her bank account, each sum sizable enough to sustain Alina for years.
"Who's being so generous?" There was no information about the sender, just indications of the incoming amounts and the resulting balance.
Alina's spirits had lifted since receiving the money. "It's compensation for the divorce."
"What the hell? When did I..." Andre began to speak, but then it dawned on him. Was this compensation given by Caleb? He must be extraordinarily generous to entice Alina to divorce him.
Alina nodded in confirmation.
Andre massaged his temples. "So, what do you plan to do? Divorce me?" His words carried a hint of flirtation.
Alina replied firmly, "I won't pay him any attention."
Even though the offer came from Caleb, she had not agreed to it. Alina believed that Caleb's insistence on divorcing Andre at any cost was not so simple. He never made a deal that would result in a loss. In this case, what was his underlying scheme?
Andre left the house, as he had important matters to attend to. He couldn't be by Alina's side all the time during this visit.
Just as Alina was about to step out of the house, she noticed Caleb's car arriving. He appeared uneasy, leaning against the car door.
A cold glint flickered in Alina's eyes as if she hadn't seen him. She walked directly towards the car that Andre had left for her, ignoring Caleb's presence.
As she reached for the door handle, Caleb spoke in a cold tone, "Have you spoken to him?"
"What?" Alina was taken aback by his sudden question, not understanding his intentions.
"Do you doubt my word?" Caleb could tell from Alina's reaction that she wasn't complying with his wishes.
"My associates have transferred the compensation to you," he continued.
So what? Did this mean he expected to hear about the divorce between her and Andre this afternoon?
"I don't think you're thinking clearly," Alina retorted, glaring at Caleb. She then opened the car door and got inside.
Watching her petite figure take control of such a dominant vehicle irritated Caleb. How had he never realized that this woman possessed such an untamed side? Previously, Alina had always been the good girl in his world, and he had never known she could drive or that she had such a fierce nature.
But three years ago, when she had escaped from him in that manner, he realized just how strong she truly was.
