Chapter 5
Camila POV
I sighed again for the fifth time in two hours as my mind went over to the awkward drive, as usual Matthew drove me to school. But per Zoey’s instructions, I ignored him all through the drive.
We don’t usually have good conversations in the past when he drives me to school, but I was always trying to bring up conversations. Which he would only grunt in response or plainly ignore me, but today, I didn’t bring up any form of conversation.
My lack of communication must have gone unnoticed by him, which made it seem like I’m only making a fool of myself. So I just focused on my phone.
The sound of Olivia and Ivy, Olivia’s friend chatting in front o me echoes in my ears. She introduced us to each other the minute I arrived in class, and dare I say, they are great people to hang out with so far. Nice and welcoming.
“Camila?” Ivy’s voice snaps me out of my thoughts, and I quickly look up at her.
I wasn’t paying attention to their conversation, as I was lost in my own world.
“Are you okay?” She asks.
Olivia studies my face, I’m not sure what she’s looking for. “Yeah, your face is so pale.”
Damn!
I was thinking too much, I guess the worry is all over my face.
“You seem to be bothered.” Ivy added.
“Yeah, I was just thinking about this good book that can help our project, but I haven’t got the chance to read it.” I just said that on reflex.
But now that I think about it, I’ve seen a book in Marco’s library once. And it will be a great help to us, since I know the title of the book. I should search for it in the library.
“I’m just gonna ask the librarian over there, they might have it.”
Olivia and Ivy nod as I stood up and walk over to the librarian. I told her the details about f the book, and she search through the data on the computer.
“I’m sorry dear,” She says. “Another student has borrowed the book.”
“Alright, thanks.” I walk off to stroll around the library if I can get some else that might help.
My eyes travel around the shelves, walking slowly in one of the alleys. The shelves around me were all tall and filled with books.
I halt as a book title catches my attention. Unfortunately, it’s placed on the highest roll in the shelf that I would need assistance getting it.
This is one of the reasons I wish I was taller, but instead, only the males in my family seems to inherit the tall gene.
Lucky me!
I had to stand on my toes to reach for the book but my finger tip could only graze the book cover. Still not enough to pull it out.
“Come on, Camila. You can do it.” I tried to push myself further.
Suddenly, I felt a presence behind me, and their shadow towers over me.
“Allow me, miss.” The voice was deep and rich, giving this boyish tone. I slowly went back on my feet and withdrew my hand.
He push against me as he tries to pick the book, my front press against the shelf in attempt to escape his warm body.
He stepped back a bit after picking the book, allowing me space to turn. I look up at him, and my eyes widen.
I’ve seen those sea blue eyes before, and I recognize his face and the familiar sandy brown hair.
“Here you go.” He chuckles lightly, and I broke my eyes from his face. I slowly took the book from him.
“Thank you.” I said barely a whisper.
I could feel his eyes on me as I went through the description on the back cover of the book. I let out a sad sigh, this isn’t the book I was thinking it would be.
A sigh leaves my lips again, I slightly shake my head in disappointment.
“Not the book you’re looking for?” He questions, and since I had difficulty reaching for the book earlier, he helped me placed it back.
While he was busy placing the book back, I couldn’t help but stare at his gorgeous side view. He’s indeed a handsome guy, the glasses he’s wearing only adds to his charm.
And the beautiful tattoo that reveals on his side, when he lifts his hand up was also tempting.
I didn’t realize how much I liked guys with tattoos until now.
Wait! What the hell? How did I start comparing Matthew to every other guy?
“Apparently not what I want to read. I’m looking for something similar to what can help my project topic.” I suddenly realized I haven’t answered his question.
“What’s the topic?” He asks, already scanning the other books on the same shelf.
“
To my surprise, a small smile appear on his lips. His eyes went soft as he shifts his gaze to me. “Is this the book you’re looking for?” He had another book in his hand, the one he’s been carrying with him.
My jaw dropped when I saw the cover, so he’s the one who borrowed it.
“Oh! Yes! I can’t believe you’re the one who borrowed it.”
What a coincidence, or maybe fate or destiny at work. I grinned inwardly, I must have watched to many romance movies, and have too many love story in my family that makes me think of this as fate.
“I’ve read the book,” he says” and I can summarize the important points to you, if you don’t mind.”
Or…
Could it be?
I stared at him, speechless. He’s asking me if I have time to sit with him to discuss the book, and I can’t be more grateful.
“Of course, I don’t mind.” I smiled.
A boyish grin creeps on his lips, he offers his hand for a handshake. “I’m Luke, by the way.” Before I could introduce myself, he adds, “it’s nice to meet you, Camila.”
And of course, I knew who I was.
He’s the famous smart guy in this university, while I’m a spoilt brat. I shyly accepted his handshake, feeling an unfamiliar sensation as our skin touches.
