chapter 5
Astrid's POV:
It took me approximately five minutes and 45 seconds to sink my teeth into all of the vampires that blocked our way.
My human and I didn't want a bloody war or a mess, which is why we didn't rip them into pieces. However, since they were vampires, my bite was still deadly to them.
My mate's scent invaded our nostrils, and I was startled by his clap from behind.
I turned and growled in warning. He stood still, leaning against the door frame with a smirk across his face and a long jacket draped over his shoulder.
"I knew you were unique and held a higher rank, but who could have guessed you were an Alpha queen? Wow, that's impressive," he said as I growled louder.
This time, it was my way of letting him know that if he stood in our way, I was going to take him down.
I could sense that he was mocking me with his words, and that only pissed me off even more.
I was about to turn and walk away when I found him standing in front of me in a split second.
He leaned in and looked me in the eyes, his eyes switching to a cloudy deep blue with a red ring around his pupil.
Instantly, I took a step back, knowing fully well that if I were to anger him in any way, I wouldn't walk out of here alive.
"Please revert back to your human form so we can talk," he said as I hesitantly shifted into my human form.
"Astrid, what are you doing?" Roxanne asked in a confused tone as our mate looked at me from head to toe with a grin.
"Not bad," he whispered, then grabbed his jacket and carefully covered me.
"Now, let me show you to your room," he said, then turned and went to the door, with me following in silence.
"Astrid, what's going on? Mother and father will be very worried if they notice that we are missing," Roxanne screamed loudly.
"Roxanne, it will be hard to go back home safely, considering what our mate is," I answered calmly.
"What do you mean, what our mate is? He's a fucking vampire, and he should be afraid of you!" she yelled.
I took a deep breath and then released it. My human was surely naive, and she always thought of us as the best there was in most territories, when in truth, there were a few supernatural beings that were above our rank.
"Our mate is a hybrid," I said as she kept quiet for a second.
"What is his other half?" her question came.
"He's half lycan and half vampire," I answered, then stood still when he stopped at a certain door.
He opened it and smiled at me before going in.
I slowly walked in and was met by his strong scent, which was everywhere. No matter how I looked at it, it was his room, or he usually slept in it.
"This will be your room as of today," he said as I clicked my tongue.
"You mean you are giving me your room?" I asked seriously.
"Not really, it means I'll be sharing this room with you," he answered, then walked out before I could say another word.
"Astrid, explain now!" Roxanne demanded loudly.
"Fine," I whispered, then moved to the bed.
"Our mate is a hybrid who is born from a lycan and a vampire. As hard as it is to believe, I know it's true. He is way stronger than we are. If he was just a purebred vampire, we could have put up a fight and we would have had a chance of survival. Sadly, his vampire bloodline combined with his lycan bloodline makes him very strong. We won't even hold our ground for five minutes in a fight," I said honestly.
"Roxanne, if we anger him in any way, he might kill us. He seems all kind and nice when he talks, but his aura gives him away. He is very dangerous. What we have to do now is find a safer way to run away. For now, we have to play the dumb part and have him lower his guard," I explained seriously.
She was shocked by my revelation, and I could tell that she believed me instantly, although it was hard to believe.
"Then there is only one way out. Let's call home and act as if we have run away because we are broken-hearted," she suggested.
"Okay," I whispered, then went to the landline phone, which was on a desk.
"I'll let you handle everything," I said, then pulled back, giving her full control.
She grabbed it and dialed Father's line.
"Hello," he answered.
Before we could talk, the line was disconnected.
She tried calling over and over again, but the call couldn't go through.
When the door opened, she dropped the phone to the ground.
The man looked at us for a second, then went to the bed and sat down.
"I was wondering how to contact Ian so he could come here, but you just made it easy for me. Thank you so much for handing over his line willingly. You did us all a great service," he said as she angrily walked to him.
She was about to raise her hand and slap him when he stood up and looked down at us coldly.
His comforting pheromones instantly changed into a threatening aura. She immediately felt nauseated as I whimpered in fear. The headache she was beginning to feel, I felt twice as hard.
She took a step back and lowered her hand while trying so hard not to show how scared she too was feeling.
"Don't make me hurt you," he whispered softly, then leaned in as she quickly closed her eyes, waiting for him to hit us.
When his lips touched her cheek, she instantly opened her eyes, astonished at his actions.
He stood upright, then walked out without a word again.
I was confused about what was happening as much as Roxanne was. But the only difference between us was that I saw it as an act so he could use us, while Roxanne saw it as the mate pull.
Either way, we were going to get out of this damn place one way or another.
I was going to watch her every move and advise her when she needed my advice. I was going to interfere only if it was necessary.
To get out of this place, I needed to fully rely on her because she was the best there was in both hunting, hiking, and social skills, while I was skilled mostly in fights and battles.
