Chapter 7

Ashley Gustavo POV

My heart hammered against my chest as I waited in the living room with Asher. I held on tightly to the divorce papers, my body almost trembling nervously. Asher managed to get me the divorce papers from his lawyer, and I was officially going to end my marriage with Ace today.

"Are you sure about this?" I questioned myself for the second time, but even at this point, I was still not sure of what I wanted. I wasn't sure enough if I wanted to end this marriage. There was nothing to love about that horrible man, but I guess I couldn't just hate him like that. Falling out of love turned out to be more difficult than I had thought.

"Don't you think you can still sort things out? Maybe this is not the best thing to do," My subconscious mind reminded me, but that was the last thing I'd ever do.

"Are you ok?" Asher's voice brought me back to reality as he held my hand, and I looked at him.

"Hmm," I nodded slowly even though it was written all over me that I wasn't fine.

"You are sweating," He looked at my forehead briefly then gazed into my eyes.

I quickly wiped my sweat with the back of my palm.

About five minutes passed before the sound of footsteps approaching the living room drew our attention, and soon, Ace showed up with his parents.

"What is it you wanted to talk about, Asher?" Mr. Greyson asked after they all sat on the couch respectively, and Asher held my hand.

"The divorce papers are ready, Dad," He spoke confidently as he took the papers from me and dropped them on the center table.

"Ashley already signed her part, so it's time for Ace to do his part and sign the papers," I was glad Asher took it up because I couldn't have had the courage to speak up if I was to do the talking.

"What if I say that I'm not signing the papers?" Came Ace's voice, and I looked at him. He was the one in a hurry to divorce me, so why the change of mind now?

"Ace—"

"I don't think what you are doing is right, Asher. You can't force Ashley to divorce her husband. I understand you are not on good terms with Ace, but that has nothing to do with his wife," Mr. Grey cut me off, causing me to swallow the rest of my words.

"Asher is not forcing me, Sir," I finally spoke up for the first time, and I felt Asher glance at me.

"Yes... I've been trying to make this work for the past one year since we have been married, but I don't think there is a need for that anymore," I raised my gaze to look at them, and his mom's murderous glare welcomed me.

"I'm not interested in this marriage anymore. I have been tolerating being with him despite his serial cheating on me, but sleeping with my sister was the height of it all, and because of that, I am not ready for this anymore," I tried to be confident though it was barely working. I needed to stand up for myself even if it was just this once.

"What is she saying, Ace? Did you sleep with her sister?" Mr. Grey turned to Ace and asked him . Wait! Didn't I mention this before?

"Dad—"

"Tell me... Is that true? Did you really sleep with her sister?" His Dad cuts him off with an angry tone.

"It was a mistake, Dad. I never meant to do that. It was her sister... She seduced me... It was all her fault, I never meant to cheat on my wife," Ace stuttered as he tried hard to back up his lies.

"How could you be so shameless? How could you do something like that, Ace? You slept with your wife's sister?" Mr. Grey threw Ace a disgusting and disappointing glare.

"He said that it was a mistake. That doesn't give Asher the right to marry Ashley just because of a little mistake," His Mom chipped in, and Mr. Grey scoffed.

"Just a little mistake, you said? Your son hurt his wife in this manner and that is the only thing you are going to say? It was a mistake?" Mr. Grey lamented unbelievably as he shook his head disappointedly.

"I'm sorry, Dad... I feel really sorry about my actions. I never meant to do that. Please help me plead with my wife. We can sort it out—"

"I pleaded with you, Ace... I went on my knees and cried my eyes out. I told you I was ready to sort things out even though you hurt me, but what did you do? You threw me out of the room and called me names right in front of my sister!" I couldn't hold myself back anymore, so I burst out and yelled at him as the tears I'd been fighting back finally found their way down my cheeks. I didn't want to cry in front of him, I wanted to take all the pain inside, but it was so much that I couldn't take it anymore.

"Why? Are you scared now that I've decided to marry your brother or do you really feel remorseful for your actions?" I snarled at him, and he turned his face away.

"Ashley—"

"You never contacted me ever since you threw me out and only started acting all pathetic after I decided to get married to your brother. Doesn't that make you feel less of a man?" I huffed.

"You have no right to tell me to sort things out with you now. Let's end this marriage, Ace. Let's end this once and for all," I pushed the papers to his front and slammed my hands on the table.

"Listen to me, Ashley..."

"Sign those damn papers before I lose it, Ace!" Asher snapped at him, and he scoffed.

"Divorce is supposed to be between two couples, and the marriage won't be nullified without the two parties' signature..." Ace uttered then paused and looked at me.

Right before my eyes, he took the papers and tore them into pieces. My heart sank into my stomach and my jaw dropped to the ground.

"I am not going to divorce my wife," A mischievous smirk laced up Ace's lips as he uttered word to word…
