Chapter 11: Squeaky Wheel Gets the Grease
Since things had come to this, Anna decided to rip Thea’s pretentious look off her face. She was not someone to be trifled with and would not leave Thea any dignity. Hazel was shocked upon hearing this. Anna had always been one to share only the good news, and it was outrageous that she had such a room in that gigantic Hayes Estate.
This statement was a severe slap in the face to Thea. After hearing Anna's words, everyone's gaze towards Thea changed. Thea felt a burning pain on her face, not expecting Anna to speak these words publicly. Moreover, Anna no longer called her by her name, but referred to her formally as Miss Hayes, clearly wanting to distance herself from the Hayes family.
"Anna, are you blaming Mom and Dad? They work so hard to earn money. We should be understanding and not be greedy. If you are really dissatisfied, then you can use my room," Thea said in the manner as if she was her elder sister, with a tone that almost seemed hard to refuse.
Look at how well she played the understanding character. Anna was almost moved to tears. In her past life, she had been deceived by this two-faced persona, doing whatever Thea asked her to do.
Anna scoffed lightly, then said, “Fine, I will use your room then. Don't just talk about it and later go cry and go complaining to our brothers, telling them I stole your room.”
Thea's expression changed upon her words, and she looked at Anna, dumbfounded. Her beautiful eyes were brimming with tears, seemingly unable to believe that Anna could say such things.
"Anna, you are... Okay, I'll move out as soon as I get back. I just want you to come home," Thea said, sounding aggrieved.
Thea's close friend couldn't stand it anymore and angrily said, “Anna, that's enough! You can't just take over her room and act like it's yours. That's really harsh!”
Anna had seen this tactic for many years now. She was truly fed up.
Anna cut to the chase. “That's easy for you to say. I've lived in that storage room for over a thousand nights. If I can live there, why can't Thea? Is Thea inherently noble, destined to live in a princess's room?”
Thea paled, hurriedly saying, “Anna, it's because of my health, so Mom and Dad pamper me a bit more...”
“Enough! If you don't want to give it up, then stop with the excuses.”
Anna didn't give Thea a chance to explain, cutting her off mid-sentence, and walked away with Hazel. Thea watched her, her eyes red, a pitiable look on her face that could evoke sympathy from onlookers.
How articulate Thea was. It wasn't her fighting for it. It was all given by their parents, nothing to do with her. Any more aggressive words from Anna would just be bullying a frail and sickly sister.
Hazel stomped her foot in frustration. She was an only child, but she had many cousins, so she had always been the center of attention. She couldn't understand how any family could neglect their own daughter in favor of an adopted one, but today was a real eye-opener for her.
Hazel refused to leave and rolled up her sleeves, ready to confront Thea. " Thea, stop being so hypocritical. Anna is their daughter. This room is Anna’s by right. How can you just claim it and then play the victim? I’ve let this go on for too long... "
Thea's eyebrows furrowed slightly, seemingly frightened. Her face turned pale, and she collapsed softly to the ground.
"Thea, what's wrong?"
"Thea, wake up. Someone call an ambulance!"
Thea's friends screamed, and a crowd gathered around them.
At that moment, the looks Anna and Hazel received from the crowd were filled with anger and blame.
Hazel stared in disbelief. She was five meters away from Thea and hadn't done anything.
Could Thea really be faking it? No wonder the Hayes family was deceived by her appearance.
Anna was fed up with these antics. She scoffed, pulled out her phone, and called an ambulance. "Hello, someone has fainted. Please hurry, she might die. Our address is..."
After hanging up, Anna ignored the surprised looks from everyone and walked away with Hazel.
If Thea wanted to pretend to faint, let her.
It had always been like this.
Anna hadn't done anything, yet people would misunderstand and think she was bullying Thea or stealing from her.
Thea was a delicate, precious swan, and she was a filthy, vile insect.
Pulled back to the classroom by Anna, Hazel puffed her cheeks, clenched her fists, and looked indignant.
"Anna, I've really seen what Thea is capable of. That innocent face combined with her vicious tactics is just… What a shameless bitch."
Hazel, the youngest and only child at home, always believed that family should protect their younger siblings.
But Thea's actions completely shattered Hazel's worldview.
If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, she would have never believed it.
Anna just smiled. "Let's not dwell on the unhappy things. After all, there's a difference between us, isn't there?"
Anna didn't want to linger on this issue. She sought some peace of mind.
After hearing Anna's words, Hazel felt relieved, but then she hesitated and asked, "Anna, you must be very upset, since your family are so biased, right?"
Anna's lashes fluttered lightly, and she smiled softly. "Not anymore."
