CHAPTER FOUR
When I was finally ready, Vicki picked out a red dress with lace around the neck area. My dress hugged my body from every part and had a slit from my knees downward. My hair was put in a low bun while allowing some strands to fall on my face. My red hair looked darker than ever. After the hair and makeup, which was nicely done, a smoky eye with a red lipstick made me daring and ready to go.
" You definitely look hot. Too bad I don't swing the other way, but damn girl..." Vicki said, smiling at me, " I'm so sure you're going to blow his mind away."
“Thanks to you.” I said, smiling. “ Though I doubt I'll be blowing anyone's mind out.”
" I'm definitely sure you would. You still haven't told me the name of the guy yet," she said, shoving me little. " like seriously, you had a whole week to tell me about the marriage but decide to tell last night” She sighed dramatically.
“ I know, I'm sorry. I just needed a moment to wrap my head around it and get used to the idea of getting married to a total stranger. "
" I get it, but you need to tell me the details when you get back. Love you babe," she said.
"Love you too, thanks again for the transformation," I called back to her departing figure, stopping her on her track .
"No mention babe, you are a natural beauty," she said. "talk to you later."
I grabbed my phone and other necessities. I slipped into my silver stilettos and stopped to check myself in the mirror. I was pleased with what I saw before walking out of the room.
The ride to our destination was filled with uncomfortable silence and I refused to say a word. Even when my mom gushed about how beautiful I looked, all I could manage to do was grumble out a "thank you". To say I was nervous was an understatement. I couldn't help but wonder who he was and what he looked like. Even when given his picture, I still couldn't bring myself to look at it.
My internal conflict was interrupted when my father announced our arrival, and I turned to look out the window and was astounded by what I saw. Calling it a house is an understatement. I know our house was more like a mansion, but this tops it all. It's more of a castle as it stood tall, skinny and freakishly beautiful.
The chauffeur came to take my dad's car. We were directed towards the entrance of the house when the door was opened by a lady in her sixties. She had grey hair and a loving smile, which was so welcoming.
" Hello, you must be the Dewitt's. I'm Selena. Please do come in." "She said as a smile grazed her face.
" Thank you so much, Selena," my mum replied, and my dad nodded at her in acknowledgement, while my brother and I smiled at her.
She directed us to a huge room, which I assume must be the sitting room. We sat, declining her offer of any refreshment because I might throw up due to nervousness.
We turned to the direction of the stairs when we heard lightly footsteps coming down, a woman almost the same age as Selena came to view, she looked kind of familiar but I couldn't pinpoint where I say her from and I shrug it off due to nervousness which kept on building up due to suspense
" Ariella, it's so nice to see you again," my mum said, standing up to hug her like they were long-lost friends.
I assumed to be Mrs. Reeves, answered with a smile that reached her eyes. She turned to my dad, pulling him into a hug, which he accepted with a smile also on his face. That shocked me because I've never seen my dad like this except with family. I turned to my brother just to know if he could also see what I was seeing or if my eyes were playing tricks on me, but my brother didn't seem shocked like I was, instead he looked so happy.
Okay, hold on, what the hell is going on here because I seem to be missing something.
I couldn't help but think that they were keeping something from me, and all I could do was wonder what it was.
We were ushered to the dining room for dinner after saying our pleasantries to Ariella, which included my brother receiving bone crushing hugs and Ariella complimenting me on how beautiful I looked.
The dinner was awkward.
Well, at least for me, because everyone seems to be having fun except for me, as I battle with myself while picking on my food. Though delicious, I still couldn't stop thinking about what this marriage might bring and how unprepared I am, only joining in on the conversation when directed to me.
" I'm so sorry that Giovanni couldn't attend Dinner with us, he had to attend a meeting in Italy and won't be back till three weeks from now, he sent his apology." Ariella said with an apology smile on her face.
" I understand, I'm sure the meeting was important," my mum said, softly smiling at her.
" So let's talk about the wedding. When is it going to be?" my dad asked, making my heart beat faster than I could ever imagine.
" Oh, I talked to Giovanni this morning since he couldn't be around and he was okay with it being on the 25th of this month, which is three weeks from now," Airline gushed. " I'm a little sad that the two won't be able to meet before the wedding," she said with a little pout.
And the conversation continues after getting my confirmation, as if I had a choice to begin with. I just want this dinner to be over.
