Chapter 5 Jean Broody vs. Bradley Jackson: When suppressed desires explode, it takes on a life of its own…safe house!

Jean leaned against the car, trying to catch his breath. Transferring the hunky soldier from the back seat of his car into a wheelchair hadn’t been an easy feat. He was not a small man himself. At a height of six ’one and muscles in all the right places, Jean was definitely not a feeble person. But the fact that Bradley was out cold hadn’t helped matters. Jean straightened away from the car and began to push Bradley in, through the connecting door in the garage. Fortunately, he lived in a very serene area so there had been no one standing around to even see him drive into his house. He’d simply drove through his remote-controlled gate and then drove straight into his big garage which held three other cars. His convertible wasn’t going to leave that garage anytime soon, Jean couldn’t help but think as he opened the door to the living area and wheeled in his patient. He continued on till he got to a part of the house that looked like a mini-clinic.

Jean Broody didn’t just practice medicine, he loved his profession. His dad was Michael Broody, the wealthy and famous architect. And his lovely mother, Lucy Broody, was a medical doctor. The two had been in a sort of competition with each other since before their seven sons were born. It was a contest to see who could get any of their children to pursue their profession. Jean’s mother had won hands down. Apart from Dean, Jean and all his brothers had gone into medicine just to make their mother happy. Out of the six, four were medical doctors and two were pharmacists. Jean had loved and understood the medical profession since he was just a boy. It was not surprising therefore that he had a whole setup in his home for medical work. His brother Dean had designed the most amazing house and embedded in the west wing what he called, ‘Jean’s Crib’. It was virtually a clinic within a home. And that was where Jean took his patient.

Getting Bradley onto the operating table was not an easy feat but Jean eventually did it. He quickly unbuckled the numerous gun holders attached to Bradley and then carefully cut off each piece of clothing from his body. When Bradley was finally naked, Jean went to work.

Jean heard the bell at the gate ring and felt his heart jump. Had they been traced already, he wondered as he went to look on the security monitor. He saw a FedEx Van behind a delivery guy who stood patiently at his gate. That was strange he thought with a frown. He wasn’t expecting any package. In movies, the bad guys always pretended to be delivery guys. Those animals could be using the same trick. He almost jumped when the bell sounded again although he’d seen the guy reaching out to press it.

“Pull yourself together, you idiot,” Jean muttered to himself and then pressed the intercom. “Yes?” He tried to sound as mean as he could.

“Delivery for Dr. Broody.” The delivery guy responded.

“A moment.” Jean sighed.

He dashed back to the theatre where Bradley slept peacefully and grabbed one of his pistols from the wardrobe were he’d stashed all the soldier’s weapons. Jean had a pistol of his own but since he was closer to Bradley’s stash, he thought it would be better to grab one of his. He pushed the gun into the back waistband of his pants and covered it with his t-shirt. Then he went outside to see what the delivery guy had for him. He had to protect his patient.

“Dr. Jean Broody?” The young man holding a package asked.

“U-huh?”

“Please sign here.” He said and watched as Jean signed the form. “Your package, Sir.” He gave the package to Jean.”

“Thanks.” Jean locked the gate and hurried back into the house. Then he went to his kitchen, grabbed a knife, and then just stared at the package. “What if it’s a bomb?” He muttered to himself.

Jean burst into laughter at a point, cursing Bradley and Ty for bringing paranoia into his otherwise very simple but fun life. With a snort, he cut off the seal and opened the box. All that was inside was a cell phone.

“The fuck…” He gasped when the phone began to ring. He picked the phone up slowly…as if it was going to explode any moment, and then slowly pressed the answer button. He could hear someone talking…heard his name being called. Jean took the phone to his ear.

“Jean?”

“Jesus, are you trying to kill me?” He growled into the phone.

Ty laughed. “What did you think it was? An explosive? Where’s Jackson?”

“Still out. Yet to wake up after the surgery.”

“Is he okay?” Ty sounded worried.

“I got the bullet out.” Jean sat on one of the high stools around the kitchen island. “He’s lost a lot of blood but he’ll live.”

“Oh shit. Should I organize some blood for…”

“I’ve got that covered.”

“Dude, don’t tell me you actually have blood in that house.” Ty couldn’t suppress his shock.

“What am I? A vampire?” Jean chuckled. “I passed through the hospital before coming home…”

“Jean…”

“Don’t worry. No one saw us. He’s AB-positive and can therefore receive blood from any group so I was in and out of there quickly.”

“Let’s hope for your sake, no one saw you.” Ty sighed. “Keep the phone with you at all times. I’ll be calling to check up on him. We need to work on the matter at hand quickly before…”

“Ty, he’s not going to be of help anytime soon,” Jean said quietly. “Where he took the bullet…he needs time to heal. If he doesn’t heal properly and completely, there may be complications that may actually…cause him his career.” He heard Ty’s gasp but ignored it. “He needs to heal.”

“Fuck.” Ty sounded as if he had the worries of the world on his shoulder. “I understand. But Jackson is too stubborn to understand he has to stay low and allow his team to take it from here.”

“Well, you’ll have to convince him then. It’s for his own good.”

“All right. Call me on the number I’ve programmed into the phone, immediately after he wakes up.” Ty said. “I need to know what he knows to enable us sort things out.”

“All right, Ty,” Jean said.

“Thank you, Jean. I’m grateful for what you’re doing.”

“For God and country.” Jean laughed softly. “I’ll keep you posted on his recovery.”

“Do that.”
