Chapter 11: Kira's POV

I woke up to the loud sound of a falling tree. My body jerked slightly at the sudden noise.

"Arghhh," I groaned, rubbing my temples as I looked around the quiet and empty tent of my blue eyed savior. The events of the previous day played in my mind one after the other until...

"I kiss.. kissed him?” My eyes widened in shock as I sat up abruptly. My fingers trembled as they brushed against my lips, my heartbeat quickening. “That... That had to be a dream right?" I muttered to myself, feeling the heat creeping up my cheeks.

"Nope, it was far from a dream Kira"

I gasped. That familiar voice rang in my head

Frantically scanning the empty tent, I felt a shiver run down my spine. I quickly muttered out. "Who... Who said that?"

"Oh, Kira, you're annoyingly slow" the strange voice sighed, sounding almost exasperated. "But I guess it's my fault, I'd have to reintroduce myself properly. Forgive my manners, my little one. I am Athena, your Lycan wolf."

My breath hitched as I stared blankly at the edges of the tent.

Did I hear that right?

Did she just say she was my… Lycan?

The word rang in my ears, echoing repeatedly as my mind struggled to comprehend it.

Lycan.

Lycan!!

Reintroduce herself?

"I... I.. I don't understand,” I whispered, shaking my head. what do you mean by reintroducing yourself" I whispered " Lycan? How can I be a Lycan... You must have confused me with someone else."

"Urghhh, so inquisitive.” Athena groaned. “But yes, my little one, I'll have to reintroduce myself" Athena calmly spoke "because the moment I was awakened you sheepishly passed out."

I blinked in disbelief.

This.. this was actually happening

But how?

"But I can't be a Lycan, Miss-Voice-in-my head." I quickly said, trying to make sense of things. "My mother is an Omega. I came from the family of Omegas so am an Omega too"

Athena let out a hearty laugh, the sound rich and knowing.

"Oh, little one, I'm here am I not? And why would I claim to be something I'm not? Her voice was calm yet filled with amusement. “When our mate found us Las..."

Wait.

What did she just say?

Mate?

I have a mate?

Oh no

Don't tell me.

No it can't be....

"Well yes actually,” Athena said, her tone nonchalant. The Lycan prince is our mate. Tsk, it's quite a shame actually" Athena calmly spoke.

I froze.

Dante? The crowned prince of Lycans?

My mate?

A sudden nervousness clenched my stomach.

But wait a minute.

"How did you know what I was saying in my head? I blurted out, my voice barely steady.

“And how is he my mate? And why is it a shame?" I quickly asked as I adjusted myself on the prince's beddings trying my best to grasp what was happening.

I heard Athena giggle, her voice now very audible in my head. The sound was playful yet teasing.

"I am you and you are me,” she answered smoothly. “So of course I can listen to your thoughts. And I mustn't explain to you what a mate is, do I?"

Technically speaking she was right.

If she was actually my supposed Lycan then of cause she could hear my thoughts.

"I'm always right Kira,” Athena said, her voice filled with pride. “And I am not your supposed Lycan. I am your Lycan."

I swallowed.

But I was still confused.

"Then why did you say it's a shame?” My voice was barely above a whisper. “And where have you been all my life? And… what exactly happened to me last night with the prince?" I asked in one breath, I needed to know exactly what was going on.

I had to know.

The last thing I remembered was how his lips tasted on mine and how..

"Well, my dear little one, kissing the prince was the least interesting thing that happened last night,” Athena purred. “And it was quite a shame you passed out before the main dish was served."

"Whatttt" my face turned redder than a cherry.

Oh, moon goddess.

Why did I call that fruit of all fruits.

"Did he…? I mean, did we…? I mean..."

"Did he claim us?” Athena finished my question amused. “No. He was going to—oh, I mean it was obvious he wanted to—but sheesh the moment I told him you were unconscious, he stopped and walked away" Athena answered, her voice laced with a tinge of frustration and disappointment that made me feel frustrated as well.

I stiffened.

He… stopped?

My chest tightened.

"Oh…" The word escaped my lips in a small, sad whisper.

He rejected us.

Didn't he?" I said sadly and quietly feeling dejected. My heart sank.

Athena's calm and soothing voice broke through my head. "I feel you were expecting to meet your wolf—and not a Lycan. I'm sorry little one I wish I could give you a straight answer, but one thing I know is a lycans bond is stronger than anything else, don't feel sad little one"

"I accept you Athena,” I whispered. “I mean, I've always felt different growing up I guess it's because I was never meant to fit in with them...." I forced a smile assuring not just myself but my Lycan that everything was fine.

"Mmmmm" she purred in contentment.

And there it was again that sweet sweet scent.

Mate.

The scent grew closer and closer and each time it drew nearer, it made the air dense and intoxicating.

The crowned prince of lycans.

Dante.

My mate.

His majestic aura and sweet scent flooded my senses as he walked inside the tent carrying a tray in his hands.

I felt my breath hitch.

"Good…good morning, your highness" I immediately said trying my best to mask my embarrassment.

"Easy, little one" I heard Athena murmur.

But Dante said nothing. Except for his irregular loud yet soothing heartbeat, he didn't even bother to reply to my greetings.

Was this how lycans treated their mates?

He stared at me for a while before coming towards me.

Then another.

And another.

Until he was right before me.

I barely had time to react before he leaned in.

My breath caught in my throat as our faces were a few inches apart from each other.

His beautiful blue eyes stared back into my green eyes. His eyes looked even more radiant now.

Time stood still.

Slowly his warm hands brushed across my cheeks before coming to rest on my forehead.

I could now clearly see his devilishly handsome features clearer than I did last night and....

"Oh, Athena.."

"Mmmmm…" she moaned back.

His touch sent an unexpected warmth through us, making my body tingle.

And just like that he stepped back.

Taking his soft touch with him.

My skin felt empty.

Was he trying to drive us insane?

Dante turned towards the exit after placing the tray down. Just as he reached the entrance of the tent, he paused.

Clearing his throat, he finally spoke.

"We will be leaving soon. Have some food"

And with that he left.

His sweet scent. Gone.

Just like that.
