Chapter 6

Halsey's shift had ended. As she's walking towards her car, Alpha Brentwood, who hasn't taken his eyes off her since he's been working across the street from her, runs across the road to meet her.

"Halsey," he called as she was about to open her car to get in.

Halsey stops to see who it was and quickly opens her car door to get in.

Alpha Brentwood loathed that his fated mate was ignoring him, but he had to accept it because she didn't know who she was as yet—a werewolf and his fated mate. Furthermore, now she sees him as nothing but a stranger, which makes his wolf heart ache for his fated mate to see him in such a way.

Alpha Brentwood held the door before she could shut it as she sat in the driver's seat.

"I know this might seem strange, but I care about you enough to let you know that your boyfriend is cheating on you with your supervisor," Alpha Brentwood told her.

Her big blue eyes stared up at him as he was telling her, which made him almost forget what he was saying to her because of how mesmerizing they were.

Alpha Brentwood had never seen anyone with such beautiful eyes as hers and considered them a rare beauty.

Halsey's eyes lowered sadly, and tears fell from her eyes; she immediately wiped them away and locked the door.

Alpha Brentwood watched her roll up her window, feeling hurt that his fated mate was suffering from the news he had just shared with her. He regretted ever telling her, for it pains him to see her so sad.

He watched her drive away, weeping.

Hearing his fated mate crying for the first time today broke Alpha Brentwood, and now, hearing her cry the second time, it was destroying him.

Alpha Brentwood had thought that his fated mate discovering her boyfriend's infidelity would lead to their breakup, but when he arrived home and overheard her boyfriend speaking to her in his apartment as if she were unaware of his affair with her supervisor, he was greatly puzzled.

"I'm working late tonight. I'll see you tomorrow." Later, Alpha Brentwood overheard Brandon telling his fated mate.

Alpha Brentwood heard Brandon kiss his fated mate before he left, which made his claws emerge from his fingers in anger, and he slashed at a wall close to him, leaving a deep and unsightly mark that another male was kissing his fated mate other than him.

Brandon had lied; Alpha Brentwood heard his heart skip a beat. He wasn't going to work late and was going to meet the one he was cheating with.

Alpha Brentwood was struggling to restrain his wolf from killing Brandon and was tempted to take his fated mate to his pack right now. He could lock her in his mansion, and there she would learn to love him, he thought. But it felt so wrong.

As soon as he knew the cheater was gone, he went to his fated mate's apartment door and knocked on it.

She opened the door and lowered her eyes when she saw him.

"Please stay away from me," she said softly.

"Because your cheating boyfriend warned you to," Alpha Brentwood said, causing her soft blue eyes to rise to him immediately.

"Why are you still with him even though you know he's cheating on you? And he isn't working late. He is going to her home," said Alpha Brentwood, very mad.

Halsey's daughter came to her, clinging to her right foot. Her tiny face goes straight to Alpha Brentwood.

"You will never understand," said Halsey, closing the door sadly.

"Then make me," Alpha Brentwood said, holding the door before it could shut.

"Why do you care about me? You don't even know me," Halsey lashed out at Alpha Brentwood.

"I know you more than you know yourself," said Alpha Brentwood, which made Halsey pause, staring at him.

Right there, Alpha Brentwood wanted to tell her that she was his fated mate as they gazed into each other's eyes, but it wasn't the right time. First, she had to know what she was.

Unfreezing herself from Alpha Brentwood's heartfelt words, Halsey said, "If you want peace, stay away from me."

Alpha Brentwood knew she was warning her about Brandon, but didn't want to say his name in front of their daughter.

"I didn't come here for peace," responds Alpha Brentwood with a grave face. He was there solely for her, his fated mate.

"Can't say I didn't warn you," said Halsey and started to close the door slowly.

Alpha Brentwood smiled at her daughter; he, too, would one day spoil as she waved happily goodbye to him.
