Chapter 3

Asher Greyson POV

My phone rang as I descended the staircase that led to the parking lot, so I stopped and answered the call as it was important.

"I found him, boss," Lucas, my assistant spoke from the other end, and a smirk laced up my lips.

"I'll be there shortly," I disconnected the call immediately and sauntered toward my car, but just when I was about to open the car door, I heard someone call me, so I turned and found Clara, my secretary walking toward me with a smile plastered on her face.

"Are you leaving already, Mr. Grey? You said we were going to hang out later after work," she reminded me when she got to where I was standing.

"I don't have time for that now. We can do that some other time," and with that, I pulled the door open and hopped inside the car, then drove off. Clare and I were supposed to have fun together today probably at the hotel or the club, but that was the last thing I wanted right now. I had other important things to deal with.

I drove recklessly down the road, clenching and unclenching my fingers around the steering wheel every few seconds as memories of last night flashed through my mind. I was going back home from the club last night when someone attacked me and almost killed me if not that I narrowly escaped.

That was not just happening for the first time, but something I've been getting often ever since Dad asked me to take over the business. At first, it was strange calls, then threatening letters, but whoever the person was finally sent someone to take my life yesterday. I've always suspected Ace to be the one sending those letters to me and even the calls, but this changed my perspective. Although I and Ace were not on good terms, I knew what he could do and what he could never do, and sending someone to take my life was something he wasn't capable of. No, I don't trust him, but I knew what he could do.

I pulled over in front of the building when I arrived, and walked inside. Lucas was already waiting for me by the time I arrived, so he just led me to the room where the culprit was waiting for me. It was a man in his forties. My face dropped as soon as I saw the man.

"What is it, boss?" Lucas asked me, and I sighed, trying to hold back the anger that had suddenly struck me. Even though I could barely see the man's face last night, I was sure that this was not the same man.

"How did you get this man?" I asked him.

"He came to me by himself and confessed that he was the one that tried to kill you," Lucas explained.

"This is not the man," I said to Lucas, and he snapped his head to look at me, his face laced with confusion.

"What do you mean, boss?" He stuttered, but I turned to the man instead.

"Who are? Who sent you?" I asked him as I squatted in front of him, and he trembled.

"I won't repeat myself, so you fucking answer my question, old man. Who the hell are you?" I yelled at him angrily, and he flinched and swallowed whatever shit was in his throat.

"Pl... please, don't kill me... I swear I know nothing about this. I was paid to do it... I was paid," he shook his head and pleaded with me, and I scoffed.

"You wouldn't want to get me pissed, I promise..." I paused, then stood up and extended my hand to Lucas. He knew what I was asking for by that, so he placed a pistol in my hand, and I pointed the gun at him.

"I will ask you one more time. Who the hell are you, and who paid you?" I snapped at him, ready to pull the trigger. He should be ready to die the moment he chose to come here to confess that he was the culprit.

"Please don't kill me. He is going to kill me if I mention him. Please spare my life," he pleaded with me, but I scoffed.

"It doesn't make any difference, anyway. Because I'm not going to spare your bloody ass," and with that, I pulled the trigger and shot him right on his forehead, and he slumped on the ground.

"Clear the mess and leave no trace. Make sure you find the bastard," I threw the gun at him and he quickly caught it.

"Yes, boss," he bowed slightly. I left the building furiously and drove off to the club, the only place I would be able to clear my head at that moment.

"A pack of cigarettes," I said to the waiter as I sat on the chair in front of the counter. The club was busy as always with people dancing to the buzzing music. It was crowded here, and as expected, the whole place reeked of alcohol and cigarettes smell.

"Here, Sir. Do you need a lighter?" The waiter asked me as I opened the pack and took a stick out of the cigarette.

"Yeah," he handed me a lighter and I lit the cigarette and began smoking. Alcohol, they say takes away your anger and pain temporarily, sadly, this was the only thing that helps me every damn time I'm angry or disturbed. I don't drink. I've never done it in my entire life, and I won't ever try it. There was something about alcohol that I hated so much, a dark part of it that made me stay miles away from it.

Within the space of ten minutes, I was done smoking three sticks of cigarettes, but my anger wouldn't go away and it was so annoying. I was disturbed about that. Who could've done that? Who could've paid the man? A part of me thought I should've left the man alive, who knows, maybe I would be able to get something from him, but I was so pissed that the only way to calm myself was to kill him, and even though there was almost no way of getting the culprit, I didn't regret killing him off.

"Hi, handsome. Wanna have fun?" A young red-haired lady walked up to me and smiled at me, running her fingers on my chest probably to seduce me, but sadly, the only thing she was seducing was my anger.

"You wouldn't want your fingers chopped off, I swear it," she quickly stepped away from me when I gave her the murderous look. I wasn't in the mood to get down with any bitch tonight. All I wanted was to stay alone and think of something.

I noticed that the fourth cigarette I was smoking had almost turned into ash when my fingers started to feel heated, so I looked down and realised that the cigarette was gone.

"Everything sucks," I muttered and dropped the cigarette butt on the small plate on the counter. After I paid the waiter, I left the club and drove to the nearest hotel to spend the night.

It was only 9pm and although I felt so tired, I couldn't still sleep because my mind was occupied with many thoughts. Just then, my phone beeped and I reached for it.

'I will marry you, as long as you will help me get my revenge. I will be your sex partner, but I have a condition too. Let's meet tomorrow morning and talk' I read the message that had just popped up on my phone. It was a text from Ashley. Reading the text brought a smile to my face and gladdened my heart. My dream was finally coming true.
