Fate’s Collision

***Bethany***

Lucien, who had been entertained by the scene, stood up abruptly and launched at me in his wolf form, grabbing my wrist. I let go of the knife, and as Zara saw my attempt to stab her, her anger intensified. With a force I had never seen before, Zara struck me, and Lucien joined in.

My head jerked backwards, and my eyes darted wildly as the pain washed over me. I managed to wiggle free from their grasp and ran for my life. I had to flee before they killed me. As I rushed to the door, my only thought was to escape.

But I couldn't see clearly; my whole vision was blurred. Still, I kept running, my heart raced hard, and every breath felt like a struggle, I could feel my lungs burning from exhaustion.

My legs trembled beneath me, and hot tears streamed down my face, as I remembered all that had happened in Lucien’ apartment. The pain that their betrayal had caused me, cuts deeper than a two edged sword.

I didn't hear anything but the pounding of my own heart, the only sound that mattered to me. Suddenly, a blinding light filled my vision, and I heard a loud thud— The earth froze, and for a moment, I hung suspended, and then everything went black.

The next thing I saw was myself in a hospital bed, I no longer felt any physical pain like I had felt last night, The only thing I am feeling is the agony that stormed my heart from Lucien’ betrayal.

My eyes darted round the empty room. What had happened? I couldn't remember anything. A voice within me whispered that I was no longer in danger, that I was safe now.

As I struggled to recall how I ended up in the hospital, the only memory that came was the blinding light that filled my vision. The events of that fateful night replayed in my mind— I had been hit by a vehicle. Was the driver drunk? I thought to myself. But something within me spoke up.

"You should be glad you're not dead. It wasn't the driver's fault, It was you who ran into the vehicle."

My head jerked sideways, trying to locate the voice. "Can we speak?" The Voice asked, eager to introduce itself. But I was rather left speechless.

"My name is Tamara, and I am your wolf," the voice growled within me, I could feel the vibration down my throat.

“My wolf?” I screamed more in euphoria than in amusement.

What had happened? Apparently, the accident had triggered a state of shock, awakening the wolf that had lain dormant within me since I was young. The anger and frustration I felt earlier were quickly replaced with joy, happiness, and self-confidence I had never experienced before.

"You mean I now have a wolf?" I asked, excitement rising within me.

Tamara, my wolf, giggled at my response. I felt an overwhelming sense of peace, having a conversation with my inner self.

"How do we go about it? How is it done?" I asked, with the corners of my mouth rising.

"Easy, easy," Tamara responded. "We take it slowly. We will always need to come to a conclusion— whether I take over or you're in control. However, you need to relax."

A huge smile spread across my face. Although I was broken-hearted by Lucien and Zara's betrayal, it had brought me an unexpected fortune. Was it their betrayal that awakened my wolf, or the Accident?

I giggled, feeling a newfound sense of purpose.

The door soon creaked open, and I was astonished to see the school’s popular playboy, his sight irritated me more than it surprised me, he walked in with a man, whom I assumed to be the doctor since he was putting on a white lab coat, and has a stethoscope hanging around his neck.

Thanks to the awakening of my wolf, it had also awakened something within me that I felt I didn't have before. I could sense that he was feeling guilty about something he had done. But he seemed to be an expert in masking his actual feelings.

The guilt overshadowed him as he walked towards me, his legs clicking on the marble floor of the hospital. I had this ominous feeling settled in my gut— was he the one behind the accident?

As he approached my bedside, he heaved a sigh of relief. "Thanks to the Moon Goddess, you are awake," he said. But I gave no response, and instead turned to the Doctor who busied himself with checking my pulse, and the beeping machines around.

“How did I get here?” I asked the doctor curtly, as my eyes narrowed in suspicion.

I spoke only to the Doctor, as if the other guy was invisible. The doctor didn't reply until he finished checking the machine. Then, he turned to me. "Miss?" he said, waiting for me to supply her name.

“Bethany Morgan," I replied. "Please, how did I get here?" I asked him again.

The Doctor turned his gaze towards the school playboy. "Mister Casper here saw you lying on the road and brought you here as soon as he could. An accident had occurred,” he paused, trying to check my pupil, before continuing, “ he did well by bringing you here. You should thank him. The Moon Goddess used him to revive you, because if he had brought you here a little later than he did, we might be telling a different story entirely," he concluded.

I rolled my eyes, and my piercing gaze shifted to him. "Are you sure you saw me lying on the floor and brought me here?”

His jaw dropped, as he stood frozen for a few seconds before he muttered under his breath, “I beg your pardon?”

“Or were you the cause of the accident?" I asked abruptly.

"What do you mean I am the cause of the accident?" He replied with much vehemence.

The doctor patted my shoulder. "You must be mistaken. He was the one who saved you— he didn't cause the accident."

But I knew what I was saying, my eyes sparkled with mischief, other girls may see him, and drool at his handsomeness, nothing seems to attract me to him, given his playboy reputation.

"Are you sure you're not behind the accident?" I asked again, snapping him out of his thoughts.

"You should be grateful," he snapped. "You heard what the doctor said— if I had brought you later than I did, it would have been a different story entirely. But I guess you're one of those ungrateful souls out there, and you don't deserve any empathy," he added, with his fist clenched, as if trying to suppress the rage welling up within him.

"Hello!" the doctor interrupted, watching the tension rising in the room. "Mister Casper, she needs time to rest. Although she's healed, thanks to her remarkable wolf abilities, she still needs to rest. This isn't the time for any engagement or argument."

Before leaving the room with the doctor, he turned to give me a last piece of his mind.

"I guess you don't know who I am," he sneered, his voice dripping with arrogance. "Let me enlighten you. I'm the Crown Prince of the Greenwood Kingdom, I don't appreciate it when subjects like you speak to me in a rude manner. If you don't have manners, you should learn some."
