“I Didn’t Just Find One Mate… I Found Two”
Voices drifted in first, then light.
I slowly opened my eyes and the first thing I saw was a bland ceiling.
I rolled over on the bed and sat up on my own, completely oblivious of where I was.
I could hear people speaking in low voices…
But there was nobody in sight and the more I tried to remember fragments of what happened before I landed here…
The more it felt like the memories were running away from me.
“Hello..”
I called out and a lady in white walked out of the inner room.
Her face was stern and unfriendly. How did I even get here?
“Good… you’re awake.
Means you’re fine, now you can go.
Just take enough water and you’ll be fine..” she ordered.
“Wait… that’s all?” I asked and she glared at me in disgust.
“Are you going to teach me…
My job now?”
She snapped and I shook my head.
“No..
I’ll see myself out.”
I responded and immediately picked up my shoe, put it on and dragged myself out of the clinic.
“Mara!” Joan shrieked as she ran towards me, pulling me into a warm hug.
“What happened to you?
You just started wincing in pain and next thing your body temperature just kept going up..”
She explained and that’s when I finally remembered.
This has never happened to me before and I was afraid it was something I was suspecting it to be long before now.
I smacked my lips and ran my fingers through my hair because now I’d have to call my mother to ask her about this and I don’t want to speak with her.
“Let me ask you Joan, how did I even get to the clinic?” I asked and her face turned a bright red instantly.
“Ouu that’s the juicy part.
So while everyone was panicking and wondering what was wrong with you…
Jaden swooped in and grabbed you in his arms like a knight in shining armor!”
She said gleefully.
“Who’s Jaden?”
I asked but the words were still hanging mid air when I heard heavy boots hitting against the floorboards.
I turned around and an unfamiliar yet strikingly handsome face stepped into sight.
“I better leave you two..” Joan teased and scurried away even before I could say anything.
“Hey..”
“Hello. You must be Jaden.”
I said and he shrugged his shoulders, pulling his hair away from his face.
“Thank you so much for helping me earlier, I really appreciate it..”
I muttered.
“It’s nothing, I saw an angel in need and I had to do something to help.
What did the nurse say was the issue?”
He asked and I glanced at the clinic door.
“What nurse?
This one?
She didn’t say anything about my health to me..”
I said and he laughed.
“Let me guess, she saw you were awake and told you to leave because now you’re healthy just because you’re awake..”
He teased and we both laughed.
“Let me walk you to your dorm..” Jaden offered and unlike Jackson, I didn’t feel the need to reject his offer.
Something about him just felt… right.
“I honestly don’t mind..” I said and we strolled out of the hall and into the open fields.
“So, your friend told me your name..”
He started and I almost asked what friend he was speaking of before I remembered Joan.
“Mara.. it’s such a unique name. Where are you from?” He asked and I almost swallowed my chest.
I’ve not thought about a response for that question. Where am I from?
“Uhhm…. ahh”
I winced and crouched over, holding my head like the pain was back.
That was the only way out of this question that I could think of and I knew it’d work…
At least until I can think of a plausible explanation for that kind of question.
“Are you alright?
Do you need to go back to the nurse?”
Jaden asked and grabbed my arm.
His touch sent a strange shocking sensation to my brain and I didn’t know when I yanked my arm away from him.
I took a few steps back and rubbed the place his hand was…
My eyes flashing like a deer that just escaped being hunted.
“What’s the matter?”
He asked and tried to come closer but my body moved first and I stepped back again.
“Did I hurt you?” Jaden pressed further.
“No… don’t come close to me.”
I muttered and pulled away, but his face twisted.
I could see he felt hurt by my words but I didn’t know what else to do…
And I needed to run back to my room before I start explaining why his touching me makes me feel some kind of way.
“If you didn’t want me to walk you, then you could have just said so..” he said softly and something in me melted away.
I opened my mouth to speak but he turned around and walked away.
I watched him walk away and a part of me wanted to call him back but it was too late.
He had already disappeared through one of the doors and I genuinely felt bad.
I rushed back to the dorm and shut my door.
Tears flowed down my face for reasons I didn’t know as I picked up my phone and dialed my mother’s number in haste.
She answered at the first ring and, like she was already anticipating my call.
“My nose just bled Mara, what happened to you?”
My mother asked and I told her everything.
I told her about Jackson, about the passing out, about the shocking sensation from Jaden..
She listened silently and after I was done, I heard her sigh.
“Whenever your wolf fights your body, it’s indicating that you’ve crossed paths with your mate..”
She explained.
I gritted my teeth because this was my fear.
“Isn’t there another explanation for it?”
“No..” she retorted.
But if Jaden made me feel that way, why did I pass out in the cafeteria when he wasn’t even around me.
Then I remembered…
Jackson!
Jackson brushed past me while I was eating but because a lot of people were walking…
I didn’t notice him until he turned around and rolled his eyes at me.
But then…that can only mean one thing. They’re both my mates!
My phone slowly slipped away from my hand.
