Chapter 6 You Have to Work Harder

Nanci watched her with an amused smile, her lips curled slightly. Who would have thought that such a young girl was a renowned top hacker in the world? And yet, she worked at this small cafe. "So angry? I never forced you to do anything," Nanci said casually, her eyes shimmering brightly. She had met Amelia Underwood two years ago. At that time, Nanci was already secretly treating Olivia, but it was inconvenient for her to operate in Waterford, so she often brought her pharmaceutical tools here, always booking a small private room.

Amelia, suspecting something secretive, started to investigate her. True to her reputation as a top hacker, it didn't take long for her to unearth Nanci's secrets. But being too young, she offended Nanci and ended up on the same side with her.

When she heard Nanci speak so plainly, Amelia sighed helplessly, "Alright, you got me! What do you want me to do this time?"

"Currently, although my identity is fake, my name is real." Nanci's voice was light. Amelia raised an eyebrow and asked, "So?"

"I need you to update my records with information about me being an heiress of the Ross family."

Amelia was stunned for a few seconds, then her eyes widened. "You want me to hack into the government system to change your identity records? Oh my God, that's illegal! I do have some principles!"

Hearing her rant, Nanci rolled her eyes. "Since when did you have principles when money is involved?" Amelia fell silent. That comment was just too real. "Besides, doesn't the Underwood family have connections? I'm just asking you to use those connections to update my records. What are you thinking?" After a few seconds of silence, Amelia's tone turned serious. "Aren't you afraid Edward will find out?"

"I am, which is why I wanted to wait until we'd completed the divorce proceedings." Nanci stirred her coffee with a spoon, her gaze dropping coldly. "But I’m running out of time now."

Nicola Ross's birthday was approaching, and Joanne might announce the transfer of shares to Nicola at the birthday party. If she returned too late, all would be in vain. Just as she was in deep thoughts, a flamboyant figure approached. Nanci glanced aside and then paused, Amelia’s voice eager for drama rang out. "Nanci! It's her!" She would have been better off staying quiet, for their presence was now undoubtedly noticed.

"Isn't this Mrs. Clarkson? I had only seen some photos before, but now I finally meet you in person." Lisa approached like a proud peacock. Nanci's eyes grew colder as she asked, "You knew Edward was married?"

Lisa smirked, "I didn't know before, but after we got together, I inquired. It doesn't seem to matter though, since you are getting a divorce and Edward doesn't like you anyway." Nanci clenched her spoon tightly, staying silent.

According to the information Lisa had, Edward's wife came from a very humble family background and held no status within the Clarkson family, who was submissive, never daring to interfere in Edward's affairs. Seeing Nanci so easy to manipulate, Lisa grew more provocative. "How shameless can you be? I've made it public that Edward prefers me, yet you still cling to him! Do you realize how pathetic it looks when you desperately hang on to him?"

"If your fans knew their idol was a homewrecker, now that would be truly pathetic," Amelia spoke sarcastically.

Only then did Lisa notice Amelia's presence. She glanced at Amelia's uniform, her eyes filled with malice. "Who do you think you are? Is it your place to speak here?" Amelia, with her doll-like face and a cutesy, girlish voice, was not a pushover by any means. When she heard this, her eyes narrowed slightly with a hint of fierceness. She couldn't wait to use the new drug Nanci had researched to silence this shameless woman forever.

"Is that man what you want?" Nanci scoffed, her voice light and airy. It was midday, and the cafe was not very busy. There were only a few people on the entire second floor. Lisa, feeling justified, did not bother to hide her intentions. "Yes, Edward and I are in love, and he's tired of you, isn't he? If you had any sense, you'd leave the Clarkson family voluntarily!"

"Even if I leave the Clarkson family, that doesn't guarantee you'll become Mrs. Clarkson."

"What do you mean?" Lisa retorted.

Nanci didn't reply but stood up and slowly walked towards her. Lisa met her cold, icy gaze and felt an inexplicable shiver. She sensed that Nanci was not as she had thought. Instinctively, Lisa took a half step back, her eyes flickering with fear. "Wh-What are you going to do?"

Nanci continued to close in. Lisa's back hit the bar, with nowhere left to retreat. She leaned back, her face pale, threatening, "My agent is downstairs. If you dare touch me, I..."

Nanci moved past her, snatching a napkin from behind, her voice still mild and harmless, saying, "What are you thinking? I just wanted to tell you. If you want to be Mrs. Clarkson, you'll have to wait in line, since there are plenty ahead of you."

It took Lisa several seconds to comprehend, her face alternating between pallor and flush. She raised her hand, about to strike. "You're mocking me!"

Nanci caught her wrist and pushed her away without hesitation. "I didn't hold it against you before because ignorance is not a fault. But it doesn't mean you can parade around me arrogantly knowing you're the other woman. As long as Edward and I are not divorced, I’m still Mrs. Clarkson. If you want my place, you'll need to work harder."

Lisa steadied herself and looked at Nanci in disbelief. After several seconds, she burst out threateningly, "You just wait!"

After Lisa stormed off, Amelia, as Nanci's loyal ally, passionately cursed Edward for over ten minutes. Finally, she glanced furtively at Nanci's expression. "Don't be upset over this pair of contemptible individuals."

"Why should I be upset?" Nanci chuckled.

Amelia pursed her lips sulkily. "Isn't that jerk betraying you? That scoundrel has been fooling around! But you don't care about him, so let it go."

It was not like Nanci didn’t want to teach Edward a lesson. However, the Clarkson family dominated the city unchecked. Nanci watched her as she glanced toward her head, her mouth twitching. "Could you be less blunt?"

Amelia calmed down. "Sorry, I thought you wouldn't mind."

Nanci leaned back in the seat, rubbing her temples. She really didn't need to care. But Amelia did have a point. Edward betrayed her. With that though, a chill flashed in her beautiful eyes. "Help me with one more thing."

Amelia was confused.
