Chapter 13 Conventional Treatment,

Everyone in the room was shocked. "Mr. Mills? Simon Mills? Sally, how did you manage to invite him over?"

Following Simon was a graceful figure. She was Sally Langdon, Amelia's cousin. She swept her haughty gaze over Amelia before speaking dutifully, "Mr. Mills is a friend of my teacher. I asked my teacher about his whereabouts, and he agreed to come here out of respect for my teacher."

This titan of the medical field, already over a hundred years old and long retired, no longer practiced medicine. His presence was undoubtedly a stroke of luck for the Underwood family. Even Edward looked at him with admiration.

However, Amelia was skeptical and murmured softly, "Grandfather is in this condition because of residual toxins in his body. When it comes to knowledge of poisons, who could surpass the Ross family? If Ross Clinic’s Alderley branch has no way to treat him, how could conventional treatment possibly help?"

Sally's eyes widened in anger when she snapped, "Are you questioning Mr. Mills' capabilities? Amelia, it's okay if you have a problem with me, but when it comes to grandfather's health, don't pretend to know things you don't!"

Simon, overhearing this, frowned, dissatisfied. "Miss Underwood, don’t be so short-sighted. Everyone knows Ross Clinic specializes in poisons. How much do they really know about medicine? Even that so-called Dr. Lancy is hardly fit to be my student!"

"You are old enough to be Dr. Lancy's great-grandfather. Of course, he is no match for you."

Simon, his face turning red with anger and his displeasure more apparent, scolded on the spot, "Is this how the Underwood family asks for help?"

Amelia’s father, Gordon Underwood, quickly apologized, "Sorry, Mr. Mills. She didn’t mean it! Please forgive her. My father's in pain. Could you please check on him first, Mr. Mills?"

With a cold snort, Simon made his way through the crowd to the bedside to begin his examination.

From the moment Amelia mentioned the Ross family, Edward's gaze had been fixed on Nanci. However, aside from her initial confrontational entrance, she seemed disinterested in everyone else, as if she hadn't heard their disputes, her eyes resting on the face of the elderly man in the bed.

After Simon withdrew his hand, Gordon eagerly asked, "How is he, Mr. Mills?"

Although Simon was short-tempered, he was serious with patients, and after careful consideration, he said grimly, "It's not good. The toxins have infiltrated his organs, and at best, I can only guarantee him another year of life, but it will be filled with pain."

This news was surprisingly welcomed by the Underwood family, given that the hospital had advised them to prepare for the worst. His consciousness was already fading, he slept more than he was awake, and even standing was becoming difficult. For such a patient, surviving another year was indeed fortunate.

But Amelia was clearly unsatisfied and gently tugged at Nanci's sleeve, signaling her to think of something. Nanci pursed her lips, as she could feel an intense gaze on her. Normally, she shouldn't speak up as it would give her away.

But seeing Amelia about to cry, she closed her eyes, thinking, “Let him find out then.”

"I heard that the Ross family has a formula they call ‘the Bloodsilk Curse’. They feed insects with over ten different poisons and place them inside a person's body, allowing the toxins to gradually corrode the limbs and organs..."

Her sudden statement caught everyone's attention. A few young girls nearby, upon hearing this, showed signs of fear on their faces.

Simon looked up at her, his eyes filled with doubt. "How do you know about this?"

After a few seconds, he continued, "I have indeed heard about it, but such a method is too risky."

"Riches are sought amidst dangers. It's the same as human lives," she stated. "Besides, Mr. Mills, isn't acupuncture your specialty? Should an accident occur, you could use your skills to control the poison and force it out of the body. Then, you could employ the conservative methods you mentioned earlier."

Simon remained silent, his expression grave.

"There are only two plans, both harmless and beneficial to the patient. If ‘the Bloodsilk Curse’ works, the two poisons will reach a balance inside the body, allowing the patient to live as a normal person. Even if it fails, extending life by a year is still a win."

Her straightforward words shone a light of excitement in Gordon's eyes.

If he was happy before, now he was thrilled.

"Mr. Mills, I beg you. At any cost, I wish for my father to die a natural death, free from the torment of poison!" He clasped Simon's hand, his eyes reddening.

Standing next to him, two young girls, though initially terrified, also joined in the plea.

It was hard for Simon to refuse.

Only Sally, disdainfully glanced at Nanci.

"You make it sound so easy! The Ross family are outliers in the medical field, looking down on traditional medicine, and they never share their experiences or cases with us! The formula you mentioned is exclusive. How could they possibly share it with us?"

Amelia frowned, retorting, "So what if the Ross family are outliers? They’re still running a business. We can negotiate with them!"

Sally scoffed, "Amelia, I know you’re ignorant, but when it comes to priceless experience and knowledge, how will you negotiate? With money?"

Both Sally and Amelia were students at the University of Alderley's medical school, but one earned her place through exams, and the other paid her way in.

Amelia was famously uneducated in the city, her biggest dream being to live off her wealthy family.

But Sally was different.

With her status as a gifted student, she often belittled Amelia.

Having Simon come made her proud and arrogant. "You should read more, make good friends, and be less embarrassing yourself!"

"Sally, what nonsense are you spouting? Say that again, and I'll tear your mouth apart!" Amelia burst out angrily.

She could endure Sally's insults towards herself, but not towards her friends.

Sally stepped back, even more supercilious. "Did I say something wrong? What kind of friends did you make? What does she know? Giving reckless advice with little knowledge, will she take responsibility if there's a problem? She..."

"Enough!"

Gordon shouted sternly, "Where are your manners?"

After his outburst, he looked at Simon with hopeful eyes and asked, "Mr. Mills, what do you think about the young lady's suggestion?"

Simon gave Nanci a meaningful glance before replying, "It's feasible, but Sally is right too. Given the Ross family doesn't really interact with the medical community, they won't share their formula."

Hearing this, Sally looked down on Amelia with a scornful gaze.

Gordon pursed his lips and fell silent for a while before turning to Nanci, speaking up, "Miss, since you suggested it, do you have a way in?"

"Of course she doesn’t! She's just one of Amelia's useless friends. We might as well ask Edward!"

At that, Sally turned her admiring eyes to Edward. "Edward, haven't you been trying to reach the head of Ross Clinic? Any news?"
