Chapter 1
I was reborn.
In my previous life, the zombie virus broke out.
My husband, Mark Whitaker, hid in our mansion with his first love, Ashley Brooks.
He locked me—his pregnant wife—outside the house, leaving me to be torn apart alive by the infected.
Now, reborn, I would use my father's industrial park to hoard supplies and build an unbreakable fortress.
In this chaotic apocalypse, I would abandon all illusions of kindness. Anyone who got in the way of my family's survival—I would leave them behind without hesitation.

Just a second ago, I was still feeling the agony of having my flesh ripped from my bones. Next, I found myself back in the bedroom I once shared with Mark.
The memory of being devoured hadn't faded. My head throbbed with pain.
Instinctively, I reached out to the tall figure beside me, only to be shoved away violently.
"Jessica, enough! I already gave you the wedding you wanted. From now on, behave yourself. Stop dreaming about getting more!"
I looked up at the voice and saw Mark's handsome face, twisted with disgust. Without another word, he turned and stormed out.
I went back half a month before the zombie outbreak?
I had loved Mark since I was a girl. In my previous life, after a night of drinking, I ended up pregnant with his child.
He married me only under pressure from my father. And for that, he hated me.
To be with him, I put up with everything—even though I knew he never stopped seeing Ashley.
After the wedding, I became more of a maid than a wife.
He barely looked at me, much less accompanied me to any prenatal checkups.
When the world started to fall apart, he tricked me into going out, claiming we needed more supplies. It was just an excuse to bring Ashley into our home.
I returned, exhausted and carrying groceries, only to find myself locked out.
I was eaten alive by zombies. The searing pain, the terror—I still remembered every second.
I felt life drain from me. And with it, the life of the child I never got to meet.
Now, I looked around this house. It was the largest, most secluded mansion in our gated community on the outskirts of Wilmington.
No wonder Mark had been so desperate to force me out and bring Ashley in.
But something didn't add up. Why risk everything to come back here? There had to be a secret.
I searched every corner of the house. When I tapped along the media wall in the great room, I heard a hollow sound.
Sure enough, behind it was a hidden emergency shelter.
I stepped inside and was stunned.
The space was massive, perfect for stockpiling supplies. And right now, it was already halfway full.
So Mark knew. He had known about the outbreak all along.
Suddenly, it all made sense. That's why, even though he didn't want me, he still convinced my family to help buy this house.
My parents had never liked him. But I was blinded by love.
In the end, my father agreed to pay, hoping Mark would treat me better after the wedding.
But even as I died outside that door, Mark wouldn't spare a second glance at me.
I had experienced the true horror of the infected with my own body.
Now that I had another chance, I would never be foolish enough to die like that again.
