CHAPTER 5: YOU DON’T CARE?
CHAPTER 5
EMILIA
His fist was clenched tightly. My heart started racing fast, my breath quickened. There was an expression on his face that I couldn't quite place.
“What are you doing here?” He asked, his voice gentle but I could tell he was very displeased by my presence here.
It felt hard to speak, like I was unable to find my voice. “I was looking for you and found this,” I clinged to the picture.
He snatched it from me. Although he's not the most friendly person but was the first time he's ever been so stern with me. The look on his face got me deliberating whether or not to ask him about it.
“Get out!” He lashes out. His voice was low but I could tell that he was trying very hard to control his anger.
“How could I just leave? Who's that? Why do you have a picture of me?” I asked, my voice laced with anger.
He stared down at me, making me realize that I was so short. I mean it's not like I was that short but he was six feet plus and I was five foot six. I was talking enough but he looked like an NBA player.
“She's not you. That's all you need to know,” he responded, returning the picture back to the drawer and locking it firm.
She's not me?
He says that casually like I was just supposed to dismiss it. My voice felt hoarse. “Is that why you married me? Because I look like her?” I asked, trying hard to hide the fact that it was creeping me out.
He stared at me. It almost felt like his eyes were piercing through my soul. I swallowed hard, praying silently that he didn't hear me. The last thing I wanted was for him to know that he intimidated me.
“If that's what makes you sleep at night go ahead with it, princess,” he replied, not giving me a definite answer.
Princess? I thought.
There was something about the way he said it that made me have a strange feeling—-Deja Vu. I could tell that I've heard it before, exactly in that tone, the way it just rolled off its lips makes me feel like I wanted to hear it again.
“Get out. Now!”
I didn't waste any time and scrambled out of there. The last thing I needed was for him to yell at me. He wasn't happy and a part of me didn't really buy his story. What if that's actually a picture of me? What if he's a serial killer who's obsessed with women that look like me?
I was starting to have indefinite thoughts.
I made my way back to the dining table. The maids had already dished my food, and I'm guessing Mr harsh wasn't coming down either. I didn't even know why I was bothered, he's a creep and only God knows what he was up to.
“Is Mr De Luca coming down?” A maid inquired, snapping me out of my thoughts.
I shook my head in response. “He has other things to do,” I replied and she nodded in response, not asking any further questions.
I started eating, my mind still wrapped around that picture that I didn't realize when someone joined me at the table until I caught a whip of his cologne.
“Yay, bagels!”
I turned around and saw a guy with long blonde hair in a wolf haircut. He was almost as tall as Martin, he was also very handsome. I'm guessing he was the assistant I met in the gym.
He was dressed in a suit, giving him a more professional look. I wondered if he lived here though, but maybe it wasn't so important that Martin didn't feel the need to inform me. Maybe I wasn't important.
“Oh, I'm sorry,” he apologized, acknowledging me in the process. “You are Emilia, right?” He asked and I nodded in response.
I wondered how he knew my name, maybe Martin mentioned it to him. I mean I was his wife even though it's based on a paper and to also benefit my greedy father.
Which reminds me; I have to go see mom.
“Yes,” I answered. “Alex, right?” I asked.
He nodded, a smile slowly forming on his lips revealing his dimples. One wouldn't know that he had dimples, but it only made him look cute.
“Nice to meet you. I was at your wedding by the way but I'm sure that you were so busy so I'm not offended that you didn't notice me,” he told me.
I tried recapping everything. But I could hardly remember anything, the only thing that was in my mind was the fact that my dad was giving me off to a guy I barely knew to save his ass.
“I'm sorry,” I apologized.
“Eh, You don't have to—-”
He was interrupted by Martin. “Get your ass up. We have a meeting to attend in thirty minutes,” he said, doing his cufflinks.
Alex groaned.”Why do you have to be such a party pooper, Martin? I just exercised. Can I have breakfast at least?”
It was surprising to see anyone talk to Martin in that tone. He just seemed so bossy and rude, that I could imagine him having a friendly nature or even a friend.
“One bagel and a cup of coffee. That's it.”
Alex nodded in response, but I was far from pleased. “Hey, let the poor guy eat. He's always working his butt off for you,” I protested, regardless of the fact that I knew nothing about him.
His expression didn't change but he arched his brows, causing me to feel a familiar feeling in my stomach. “Are you his sister or something?” He joked.
I exchanged glances with Alex, who looked like he was enjoying the scene; here I was fighting for his ass. I returned my gaze back to Martin. “Ugh…I just don't think it's fair. You can starve yourself, but definitely not him.”
He scoffed. “So, you don't care about me, huh?”
I didn't know if I was imagining it, but the way the sentence rolled out of his mouth made it sound like he was hurt or maybe it's because of his thick deep voice.
