CHAPTER 8: My Slutty Wife.

Liam.

My jaws clenched as I picked up my office phone and dialed my personal assistant.

“Mr. Kingsley…” he answered right away.

“Why is the video still trending? Didn’t I instruct you to make sure every single video was wiped clean?”

“I’m sorry… I was trying to finish the tasks you gave me before—” he replied.

“But I did mention that you should treat this task as a priority, didn’t I?” I calmly interrupted.

“I—”

“You’re fired,” I cut him off.

Heaven knew I wasn’t a patient man. Taking matters into my own hands, I called the Director at our IT branch and gave him the instructions myself.

Some minutes later, every single video and news blog pertaining to the matter of Evelyn’s nude leak was not on the Internet anymore.

Sighing deeply, I picked up my phone and dialed Evelyn. I had her number from when she texted about needing a job.

“Hello, little angel,” I said as soon as she picked. But then, I heard sniffles over the phone. “Are you alright?”

“No, I’m not,” she cried. “Everything is just so frustrating. Why can’t this go my way for once? Am I paying for the sins I committed in my past life?”

My chest tightened. I hated the sound of women crying, it reminded me of my mum.

“Are you home?” I asked.

“Yeah.”

“Get ready. I’ll be there in ten minutes to pick you up.”

“Uhmm… I’m not sure that’s a good idea,” she replied.

“Just get ready,” I said and hung up.

Grabbing my coat from the back of the chair, I went out of my office and turned to my personal assistant.

“Cancel all my meetings for today,” I said. Then I lifted my eyes to see that he was packing his stuff into a box.

He looked at me with wide eyes and asked, “Does that mean I can keep my job?”

“No,” I retorted. “You’re still fired. Just do that task before you go.”

And then I walked out.

I got to Evelyn’s place exactly 15 minutes later and found her already on the porch in a pale yellow sundress.

“No bodyguards today?” I asked as soon as she got into the car.

“I think something big happened, because Dominic left with them. I guess it’s for the better anyway,” she replied.

“You clean up well,” I said as I started the car. Her eyes were still red from her crying, but there was a sunshade on her head for that purpose.

I wasn’t sure where I was driving to, and as I revved up the car, I decided to take her out for dinner.

Driving with one hand, I felt around for my phone with the other hand. I needed to text my personal assistant, so he would call to make a reservation.

And that was when I remembered that I didn’t have one. Trust me when I say it sucks to have to do everything yourself. Guess no more fancy restaurant dinner.

Glancing briefly at Evelyn as I drove, an idea suddenly came to my head.

“You said you needed a job…”

“Yes, I do. But what company would want to hire me now after that scandal?” Her voice shook as she spoke.

“How about you come work for me as my personal assistant?” I suggested.

“Really? Oh my gosh. Thank you so much. Do I need to send my resume? I have it right here. Whatever you need…”

“Hey, breathe,” I interrupted her rambling. “You have the job already.”

“Don’t we need an interview?” She asked, widening her eyes.

I sighed loudly and parked my car just inside my estate. Then I turned to her. “Do you know how to make and receive calls?”

“Yes?” She asked in confusion.

“And you understand English?”

“Yes…”

“Then the job is yours. You don’t need to do much. I’ll give you tasks at the beginning of the day. All you need to do is schedule my meetings, cancel some meetings, make calls, receive calls, and that’s it,” I explained.

“Wow, thank you so much,” she said with tears in her eyes.

“You’re welcome. Now let’s go in.”

I opened my door and came down, waiting at the front of the car for her to come meet me. But seconds passed and her door remained closed.

Blowing a raspberry, I walked to her side of the car and knocked on the glass. She rolled it down and I saw her fidgeting with her hands.

“Mr. Kingsley, I know you probably saw my nudes on the Internet, but I promise you I didn’t post them. I’m not that kind of girl,” she rushed the words out.

I scrunched my brows in confusion. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“I don’t want you to take this the wrong way. But if you’re thinking of sleeping with me just because you gave me a job, then I would have to decline the offer,” she said in a shaky voice.

“What?”

“Isn’t that why you brought me to your house?” She asked, still fidgeting.

“Come out of the car, Evelyn. If I wanted sex, I wouldn’t have to offer you a job to get it. Besides, why would I want to sleep with someone like you?” I scoffed and walked towards the house without waiting for her.

I was pissed that she thought so lowly of me. What the fuck?

***

I already poured myself a glass of whiskey, turned on the TV, and was sitting in the living room when she entered. Still, she stood by the door like she was waiting for permission to sit.

How exactly did Blackthorn fuck her up this much?

Sighing loudly, I spoke. “Evelyn, just sit. Make yourself comfortable, because we need to talk. Do you need anything?”

“Uhm… a glass of whatever you’re having?” She asked timidly as she moved to sit.

I raised my brow in surprise. The little Saint drinks alcohol! Damn.

After handing her a glass of whiskey, I returned to my seat and watched as she gulped everything at once; making a face when she was done.

“You good?” I asked, sipping mine.

“Yeah. So what do you wanna talk about…?”

“Do you wish to return to your husband or get divorced? Because Dominic can’t protect you for much longer. If Victor slams him with a lawsuit, you’d have no choice than to return to your husband‘s house,” I paused so it could sink in.

Then I continued, “First, you’re still legally married to Victor Blackthorn. Secondly, he could sue Dominic for unlawful abduction, and that would work in his favor, because you were unconscious when Dominic took you and everyone knows that.”

Her eyes widened. “I want a divorce. But at the same time, I don’t want to go back to Dominic.”

Just then, the news came on and as soon as I saw Blackthorn on the screen, I increased the volume. Evelyn’s eyes were also glued to the screen.

“…my wife is morally rotten, and this is dealing a large blow to my reputation. So I’m here to publicly call her out from wherever she’s hiding,” he paused and smirked. “My slutty wife, I’ll need you to come sign the divorce papers tomorrow.”

“He was the one that posted my nudes,” Evelyn said when Victor was done.

But the only thought running through my mind was: Fuck, the bastard beat us to it.
