Chapter 8
Willow's POV
I wake up in bed feeling horrible as my throat is sore, my head is pounding, and my nose feels clogged up.
This is just great! Maybe yesterday wasn't from my hangover. I am sure drinking added to the headache. It's possible I was starting to get sick yesterday, and just assumed it was my hangover.
I let out a sigh as I get out of bed and walk into the bathroom to do my business. On my way out of the bathroom I can hear my cellphone ringing.
Shit! Where did I put it?
Looking all over the bedroom I finally find it in-between my nightstand and my bed.
Kristin's name is flashing across my screen as I swipe accept to answer her call.
"Hey." I say my voice coming out hoarse and rough as I walk into my living room and lay down on my couch.
I can hear her talking to someone in the background and laughing before she finally speaks,"Hey, girl! Geez you don't sound very good. You're okay?" She asks me.
"No, I feel like I got hit by a bus. My throat is sore, headache from hell, and it feels like I have enough snot to make homemade glue. My nose isn't running yet, but I am sure it will start at some point. Right now it's just clogged." I tell her and groan as I realizes I don't have a blanket on the couch. I shiver as I get up and walk tiredly back into my bedroom.
Grabbing the purple fluffy blanket that hangs on the edge of my bed, I wrap it around me.
"Yeah, you do sound pretty awful. I am going to come by with some soup." She tells me.
I shake my head as I walk back into the living room and lay back on the couch.
"No, I am pretty sure I am sick. I must have got it from that family that came in coughing the other day. I don't want to get you sick."
Kristin laugh, "Willow, I am a demon my immune system is stronger and different than yours. I can't even get your human sickness."
She is right demons can't get human illness and I can't get demon illnesses either.
"True, but can we switch to texting? My throat is killing me." I tell her as I switch the TV on.
"Yeah, we can. I will stop by the grocery store and get you some soup." She tells me as I start flipping though channels.
"Can you pick me up some cold and flu medicine too?" I ask as I decide to just watch the news.
"Sure I can do that. You're okay if Virgil comes with me?" She suddenly asks catching me off guard.
I guess they are getting pretty serious for her to be hanging out with him on her day off like this. I am happy for her.
"Yeah, he can come if he wants too." I yawn and snuggle into my fluffy blanket.
"Great, I will be there in a few! Bye!" She says cheerfully and hangs up before I can get a word in.
Hopefully she gets the right medicine. On second thought maybe I should google it on my phone and send her the screenshot of the medicine I want her to get so that she gets the right one. I pull up google and search the medicine I am wanting. Then I screenshot it and send it to her through messages.
Kristin: Want me to get the nighttime cold and flu as well?
Me: Yes, please!
Kristin: Alright, I will be there soon :)
I swear Kristin is the best. I really don't know what I would do without her. In the meantime I think I will rest my eyes for a few. My eyelids feel heavy and this news lady is putting me to sleep. I yawn and close me eyes as the weather man comes on across the TV screen.
I wake up to the sound of loud knocking. I slowly get up with my fluffy blanket still wrapped around me and stumble my way to the front door. I turn the knob and open it.
"About damn time! We've been knocking for twenty minutes! I even had Virgil call your cellphone a few times." Kristin say as she barges into my apartment with Virgil following her from behind.
"S-sorry I fell asleep" I tell her my voice low as I walk back to my couch and lay down.
"You really don't look so good. You should probably call in tomorrow." Virgil says as he takes a sit in the gray chair that is on the right side of the couch.
I nod, "Yeah, I am planning on calling him a little later." I tell him.
"Shit!" Kristin yells as a bunch of pots that were on my top shelf go crashing onto my kitchen floor.
I hear Virgil let out a laugh, "You could have asked for help." He tells her.
He stands up and walks over helping Kristin pick up the pots.
" Why are you getting pots down anyway? I thought you got can soup" I say as I watch them from the living room.
Kristin smiles, " I am making homemade chicken noodle soup." She finds the pot that looks the biggest and sets it on the stove top, grabbing the the chicken broth and some other ingredients I can't figure out.
I really hope what she is making is edible.
I let out a sigh and look at Virgil as he approaches me.
Holding up a small medicine cup full of red liquid inside, he offers it too me and I take it from him.
I make a face and gag a little as the medicine goes down, "I swear medicine is nasty. You would think that if they can make different flavor sodas. They could make better tasting medicine."
Virgil laughs," Yeah, you would think."
I hear his phone ringing. He pulls it out of his pocket and answers it.
I can hear someone yelling on the other end and hangs up, before Virgil can get a word in," Well, I got to go duty calls. " He says with a soft smile.
"You better come back!" Kristin yells from the kitchen.
I let out a small laugh as Virgil nods, "Yes, boss" he says with a wink as he transports away.
" You have him wrapped around your finger." I tease as she laughs. " I do not, but he is amazing."
I smile at her," So, you two moving in together?"
She shakes her head, No, but he does come over when he isn't busy. I don't know what he does exactly but I know he shows up tired or dirty."
" Oh, okay." I watch as she puts the noodles into a separate pot to boil.
After a hour Kristin brings me a bowl full of her homemade chicken noodle soup. I stare down at the brownish color of it.
I smiles up at Kristin as she patiently waits for me to take a bite. I really hope this is edible, because this doesn't look appetizing.
Taking a spoonsful into my mouth I am surprised that it actually tastes pretty good, "I think this is the best chicken noodle soup I have ever had." I admit to her.
She laughs, "What did you think I would feed you something gross?" I nod my head, " Yeah, I've seen the way you make eggs at the diner." I tell her as I continue to eat my soup.
The warmth of the soup gives my sore throat a bit of relief and helps me relax a little bit.
She grasps in disbelief as she puts her hand to her chest, " There was nothing wrong with my eggs!" she pouts as I laugh.
" You're being dramatic and there was something wrong because Jake took one bite and threw it away."
Kristin scoffs, "Jake was just jealous my eggs tasted better than his."
I smile and roll my eyes as she sits down and I place my legs across her lap.
Holding my bowl in my right hand, I hand her the TV remote with my left hand, "Pick something to watch."
Kristin takes the remote and flips through the channels before turning it on 'Mean Girls'.
" I figured you would pick that to watch. Since the second movie just came out."
Kristin smiles, " Well, yeah you have to watch the first one to know what the second one is about." She says in a-matter-of-fact tone.
"Right." I say with a small laug. Looking at my kitchen, I find that it looks like a hurricane went through it.
"I hope you are going to clean my kitchen before you leave. Not to mention that you need to take some of the soup with you. I won't be able to eat all that soup by myself."
Kristin rolls her eyes, " Yes, I will clean the kitchen later. Can we watch the movie now?"
I nods, "You better." I say as I finish the rest of my soup and place the empty bowl in the floor.
Laying my head by on the armrest, I watch the movie with Kristin.
Five hours later there is a knock on the door, Kristin pauses the movie and moves my legs off her lap to answer the door.
"About time you show up!" Kristin says scolding Virgil.
I watch as he steps inside with a soft smile with Dean right behind him, "Sorry, business ran a little long and I went to your house thinking you went home. I didn't know you stayed." Virgil says rubbing his hand on the back of his head.
"Why is Dean with you?" Kristin says crossing her arms over her chest.
" I figured I would tag along. Besides I heard my new coworker was sick and decided to check in on her." Dean says with a smirk.
"New coworker?" I ask.
Me and Kristin share the same confused look.
Dean nods, " Yeah, Boyd and me switched places. I start tomorrow with you girls, but since Willow is sick, I guess it will just be me and you." He says talking to Kristin.
I guess Boyd was able to switch with someone after all. He was on the phone with Damian most of the night. Not to mention that little argument he had with Jake before I left yesterday.
"What happened to Boyd?" Kristin asked with a confused look.
Dean walks over and sits next to the chair to the far left, " He has important stuff to do." Virgil tells Kristin as he wraps his arms around her waist.
Important stuff my ass. The guy was whining about wanting to leave.
"So, how are you feeling?" Dean asks with a soft smile.
" I still feel awful." I tell him as I pour myself medicine into the small medicine cup.
"Willow, you should call Jake before it gets too late. It's already six thirty at night." Kristin says as she sits in Virgil lap in the rocking chair.
I nod and grab my phone off the coffee table.
I have a five minutes conversation with Jake before he hangs up.
I let out a sigh.
"Was he mad?" Kristin asked.
"No, he just told me not to come back into work until I was better."
Actually I've already decided not to go back until I was feeling better anyway.
Working with rude customers while being sick would be hell.
Kristin nods, "He is right."
"Yeah, I know. It's just going to be boring being home alone."
All I will do is watch TV. It won't be a bad thing. I just hate being sick.
"We could always stop by after work to visit." Dean butts in.
"We? Who said you were coming?" Kristin asked him.
Dean acts offended and puts his hand over his chest, " That's really mean." He says as I laugh on the inside.
"He can come over iff he brings me a burger and fries." I tell him and Kristin.
Dean smiles, "I can do that." he says happily as Kristin rolls her eyes.
"Fine, let's just get back to the movie, since we are only five minutes in. I will restart it." She says starting the movie over.
"What happened to 'Mean Girls' movie you are watching?" Virgil asked.
Kristin stares at him before answering, You've gone five hours. We already watched the first and second movie. Now we are watching Pitch black." She tells him.
"What? Not my fault I have work. Beside Vin Diesel is great in this trilogy." Virgil says with a grin.
I watch as Kristin smiles, "You are lucky I like you." She tells Virgil as she kisses him on the lips.
"Ew! Some of us want to watch the movie." Dean tells them.
I laugh as Virgil gives Dean the middle finger.
"He's right, push play." I tell Kristin since she's the one with the remote.
She finally un-pauses the movie.
As we get halfway through the movie I feel my eyelids getting heavy. I have been falling asleep all day, whhich is a little frustrating because I want to spend time with Kristin.
I feel someone shake my arm gently and I stare up at Kristin tiredly.
"Come on, I will help you to bed so you can sleep." She tells me.
"What about you guys?" I ask her as I sit up.
"You are the one that is sick you need rest." Virgil says with a soft smile.
"Okay." I say softly as I stand and Kristin walks me to the bedroom.
Walking inside I let out a little yawn, "Make sure you clean my kitchen before you leave." I remain her as I climb into the center of my bed.
She rolls her eyes, " I will clean it, but we aren't leaving. Me and Virgil are staying in the guest room and Dean's going to stay on the couch. Not leaving you alone when you are this sick." She tells me as she tucks me in.
"This is my apartment." I tell her in a-matter-o-fact tone.
"So, as your best friend, I'm not leaving you alone. I will even stop by on my lunch break to check on you. That's why I am taking your house key with me." She says as I start to speak.
"I'm not going to argue with you about this. You are sick and live here all alone. We are staying." She tells me in a bossy tone.
I sigh in defeat, "Fine." I say as I lie back in bed.
"Yell if you need anything." She says before turning the light off and cracking my door.
She really is the best I don't know what I would do without her.
I let out a yawn and close my eyes. I fall asleep listening to the sound of the TV blaring from the living room.
