Chapter 1
Genevieve
“Ma’am, your scheduled appointment time is almost over. We have the next couple already waiting,” the receptionist said to me.
Gosh, this was so embarrassing.
“Give me a moment, please,” I told her. “My fiancé is probably being held up by something. He should be here soon,” I added.
I called Julian for the umpteenth time again, but it rang and went to voicemail.
Why wasn’t he picking up? Today was supposed to be our wine-tasting day in preparation for our wedding which was a few weeks away. I have been occupied with planning everything from scratch all by myself, and he couldn’t show up for one single thing?
I called again, and it ended in voicemail.
I groaned internally.
Julian and I were madly in love. He proposed shortly after we started dating and it was just perfect. The butterflies were still there, but sometimes, I wished he was more serious with the wedding plans.
I checked my wristwatch and sighed dejectedly.
Five minutes from now the receptionist would come back to remind me that time was up, and I didn’t want that, so I simply stood up.
“Are you leaving, ma’am?” She asked when she saw me going towards the front door.
“Yes, I am. I guess we will just reschedule,” I said.
It was trying not to get mad at Julian . I was disappointed, just not mad. Julian always liked it when I took charge of plans, including dates and our hangouts, and it hadn’t been much of a big deal for me.
“Rescheduling is going to be an extra cost, ma’am,” she told me.
“Yes, I know,” I said and walked out of the wine store.
My taxi arrived in no time and I gave him Julian ’s address. He didn’t go to work, so he definitely would be at his apartment at this time. I could tell that he must be sleeping deeply, which was the reason he couldn’t make it to the wine-tasting appointment.
When I arrived at Julian ’s apartment, I used the key I took from him and opened the door. Then I proceeded to his bedroom.
His door was wide open carelessly, and there was Julian , my fiancé, on top of another woman.
“Yes, baby…gosh!”
That was Julian ’s masculine voice.
My mouth fell open as I watched how his waist moved to the rhythm of his thrusts as beads of sweat trickled down the lines of his back.
While I was out there waiting for Julian for our wedding wine-tasting for over two hours, he was in his apartment entertaining another woman. My breath ceased instantly.
I could see them right from where I stood and my stomach churned in disgust. How could Julian do this to me? I have never cheated on him and he knows this. Weren’t we supposed to be madly in love with each other?
The sight of Julian cheating on me with another woman shattered my heart into a tiny million shreds. They were so consumed in it that they didn’t know that I was right there.
I couldn’t take it anymore, so I turned to leave.
“Yes, Julian …harder! Deeper!” The woman cried in utter pleasure.
I stopped instantly.
It wasn’t because I hadn’t heard a woman cry out in pleasure before, it was because the voice was unmistakable. Even if I was dead in my sleep, I would recognize that voice.
I swallowed hard. My ears had to be playing a dirty trick on me.
“Oh gosh, Julian …you are so good…don’t stop!” Her voice was over the roof.
“Oh yeah?” Julian responded.
“Yes, baby!” She said wildly.
That was undeniably Kelly’s voice, my biological younger sister.
A wave of anguish washed through me, sending a torrent of pain and heartbreak into my heart. I turned and looked at them again, both stark naked, and their bodies coming together in unison.
“What?” I gasped in shock as the first tear slid down my cheek.
The sound of my voice alerted them of my presence, and they both turned in shock, but their shock was quickly replaced by indifference as they grabbed their robes leisurely.
“How did you get in?” Julian asked as though I simply walked in on him taking a nap.
He couldn’t even recall that he gave me a key!
“Goodness, I can’t believe this,” I said brokenly.
I gripped my hand bag tighter to prevent me from erupting in the uncontrollable emotions going on inside of me.
If I had walked in on Julian screwing another woman, a random woman, I would have been hurt, no doubt, but it was nothing compared to seeing that the woman Julian chose to cheat on me with was my own sister.
“You were bound to find out one way or another anyway,” Kelly said, shrugging indifferently.
I could barely stand the sight of her.
If there was anyone I guessed would have done this to me, it wouldn’t have been Kelly, because she was the only person I would cross oceans for. I practically took care of all her needs without complaining, but this was what she had to pay me with?
“Why would you two do this to me?” I asked as more tears flowed down my cheeks.
I was hurt beyond words. I could literally feel my heart breaking into pieces.
My fiancé and sister…together.
“It’s not a big deal, Genevieve. Stop fussing, come on,” Julian said without an iota of shame.
“I loved you, Julian !” I almost barked at him.
“But you were starving me of sex. Ever since you started planning the wedding, that is all you have concerned yourself about, neglecting my needs,” Julian said.
I looked at Kelly. There was a smirk on her face as she looked at me, despite the fact that I was crying. Then I looked at Julian and he didn’t give a shit.
Neither of them was sorry.
I turned and ran out of the room as more tears spilled.
As I left Julian ’s apartment, I realized with a broken heart that he didn’t even move a leg to run after me and beg me.
