1 Don’t Think I’m a Traitor

“This contract is coming to an end.”

Kavita turned her head as a man’s voice reached her ears. “Prepare this contract termination letter immediately to clarify our status.”

Kavita quickly stood up from her seat and nodded respectfully to her boss, Ezra Danadyaksa.

“I will prepare it immediately, Sir. Approximately one week before the contract expires, the termination letter should be on your desk.”

“Good, don’t forget to include any outstanding fees ... I don’t want anything left out after this contract ends.”

“Yes, Sir.”

Ezra grabbed his tie as he had to leave for the office immediately, Kavita helping him to be quick and tidy.

As a final touch, Kavita puts on Ezra’s jet-black suit and walks him to his waiting car.

After the boss leaves for the office, Kavita returns to the house and goes into Ezra’s room to clean up.

It’s been almost a year since she contracted with her boss at work to help pay off her husband’s mounting and seemingly endless debt.

If it wasn’t for her sense of devotion and the need to maintain the small shop business she had just started, Kavita wouldn’t have taken this shortcut of offering a contract to her cold and ignorant boss.

“That’s it, Mr Danadyaksa’s room is tidy ... I’ve put the dirty clothes in the wash ...” Kavita wiped her sweaty forehead as she looked at every corner of Ezra’s room, including the king-sized bed that she had put new sheets and pillowcases on.

After all the chores were done, Kavita rushed to the other room to shower and get ready, as she had asked Ezra’s permission not to go to the office today.

Kavita misses her own home, and her husband must be feeling the same way.

“When is your contract over, darling? Even though it’s a lot of money, I still feel empty because you’re not around ...” That’s what Kavita’s husband said during their last phone conversation.

“I’ll be home soon, I promise. You take good care of the shop and the house ....”

“Of course, dear.”

Kavita wipes her eyes after fondly recalling the conversation.

After taking a shower, she stayed up a little longer to make her husband look radiant upon her arrival.

Kavita had deliberately not told him that she was coming home that day, so the idea of him being excited was already dancing in her mind.

Moments later, Kavita walked leisurely into the housing block after travelling about half an hour by taxi. Two paper bags were clutched tightly in each hand as souvenirs.

“Vita, why are you here?” Her mother-in-law appeared as Kavita stepped into the house. “You must be tired, I’ll make you a drink first. Don’t go anywhere!”

Kavita puts down the paper bag and shakes her head. “Don’t bother, Mum ....”

“It’s no hassle, will you wait?”

“But, Mum ...” Kavita stops herself as her mother-in-law disappears into the kitchen.

Pleased with her in-laws’ simple welcome, Kavita continued her walk to the master suite.

The room where she and her husband once shared laughter and fiery love ....

“Deryl must be surprised,” Kavita thought as she climbed the stairs.

Seeing the door to the master suite slightly ajar, Kavita hesitantly pushed it open and ....

Kavita was shocked when she was presented with the scene that unfolded before her.

Deryl was struggling with a puffy blanket, looking so energized that he wasn’t paying attention to his surroundings.

“Ouch, Deryl ....”

“It’s slow!”

It doesn’t take long for Kavita to guess what’s going on in her room. She pulls the blanket tight to reveal Deryl snuggled up to a woman without a single thread.

“Kavita! Are you home yet?” squeaked Deryl ashen, his facial expression looking shocked, while on the other hand he still wanted to finish his passion that had not yet reached its peak.

“Why stop, just keep going.” Kavita dropped the blanket and stomped on it mercilessly, her gaze fixed on the woman who was waiting for the tussle with Deryl to resume.

The sweat-drenched faces of both women make Kavita want to blow them into tiny, unrecognizable pieces of cells.

“I’ll explain, Kavita ... Uh, but wait-a little more ....”

Shamelessly, Deryl continues the tussle again, and Kavita doesn’t want her eyes tarnished any further than this.

Moments later, after the disgusting event, Kavita and Deryl gathered in the living room, including the woman who had been his wrestling partner.

“What’s your explanation for this?” Kavita asked in an icy tone. “How could you cheat on me when I’m helping your economy out there.”

“I’m not cheating, Kavita. I’ll explain who Yura is to you,” Deryl replies with messy hair and a serious face.

Kavita glances at the woman who is the culprit in her and Deryl’s marriage.

“No cheating, huh? You think my eyes are blind?”

“Kavita, don’t be rude!”

“So what’s this, you’re hosting another woman and even sleeping with her! Is that how you say you’re not cheating?” Kavita snapped.

“I’m not cheating, this Yura is my wife.” Deryl insisted.

Blaaar!

Like a bolt of lightning in broad daylight, Kavita was wide-eyed when she heard Deryl’s honest confession.

“You ... you have a heart, don’t you? I’m out there working so hard to help you pay off that debt, and you’re paying me back with betrayal!”

“I’m not betraying you, Kavita! I married Yura, so she’s in the same position as you.” Deryl said understandingly. “So don’t think of me as a betrayer, cheater, or anything bad ....”

“Why didn’t you ask me for permission first?” Kavita asked, holding back the pain in her heart. “You should have.”

Deryl was silent for a while, more so than Yura who didn’t want to talk if not asked.

“You should know that a man does not need his wife’s permission if he wants to remarry ....”

“What did you say?” cuts in Kavita fiercely.

“That’s the truth, Kavita! As long as there’s money, you and Yura don’t have to fear deprivation. I’ll also be fair to both of you, including in bed.”

Huh, Kavita snorts inwardly. The problem is that the money you use to live is almost all my money!

“Can you at least talk to me first?” Kavita asks. “If I’d known you were getting remarried, I would never have made such a huge sacrifice.”

Deryl wipes his face, then looks at Kavita straight on.

“I knew you’d bring it up again, so I deliberately didn’t ask your permission to marry Yura.” Deryl confirmed.
