Five:

ANYA

"What the hell do you mean by she is not in her room?"

"Aurelio, calm down. Kay is probably just out with her friends," Anya Delgado says to her husband, her hand on his cheek, and turns his face in her direction.

He drags his hand through his hair, his body shaking with a mix of nerves and anger.

"Actually ma'am, I've asked around already, and none of the guards saw her leave this morning," Arturo, the head of security at the Delgado house cuts in, and Anya fires a look in  his direction.

She is trying her best to save him, but it seems what the man wants is a bullet through his skull.

Thankfully Aurelio does not seem to hear him, and he snaps his fingers suddenly, startling them both.

"The cameras. Did you get anything on the cameras?" he asks hopefully, and Anya smiles at him, but Arturo shakes his head, his eyes on his shoes.

"They are all backed up, sir. It seems the last thing they captured was from almost two weeks ago. I'm sorry," he says, his voice almost a whisper.

"Give me your gun," Aurelio says, holding out his hand. Arturo looks up, his face a composed mask, but Anya sees the fear in his eyes.

"My love, what are you going to do?" she asks her husband, who has turned red with rage.

"I'm going to kill them. I'm going to kill them all, these useless imbeciles. They're all useless... she's so young, my girl, and she managed to slip out my right under their noses. What if something—"

"Nothing is going to happen to our Kay, Aurelio. She's smart, and she can take care of herself. We are blowing things way out of proportion with this... she's angry. She will come back when she cools off," Anya says firmly, interrupting his hysterics.

She does not believe any of that crap herself—she knows their daughter is naive and weak and defenseless out there, but one of them needs to be sensible if they are going to find her before the wolves get their hands on her.

They have some time, because they have manged to keep their personal life away from their work life.

"We should have just sent her away without telling her any of this. She is always so calm and rational with her decisions. I didn't think she would react like this, amore. Where is our little girl, Anya?" her husband cries, collapsing into her arms.

Now is definitely not the right time to remind him about how she tried to warn him about all that yesterday.

"We shall find her, sweetheart," she says instead, stroking his hair as he cries into her neck.

Sometimes, she wonders how he has managed to run this organisation for this long with how emotional he is. She has seen him kill without as much as a flinch, negotiate with the most notorious criminals like he is talking to kindergarteners. But here he is, completely devastated at just the thought that his daughter might be in the wrong hands.

"I'll ask around the neighborhood and see if anyone saw her leave," Arturo says, shoving his gun back into it's holster.

"Also check for any records of purchases, hotel room check-ins...she does not have her allowance yet, so she must have used her credit card. Call the bank and find out all of that," Anya says dismissively, and Arturo nods his understanding and walks away.

She leads her husband back to their room and helps him into bed.

"Rest until you feel better. I'll handle everything," she says, drying the residual tears from his cheeks.

Personally, she had already cried enough last night at the thought of being away from Makayla. Now, although her insides felt hollow and empty and her heart was so devastated it was barely beating, she could not bring herself to shed a single tear.

At the expense of looking insensitive, she has to be strong.

There is work to be done...a new shipment of arms at the dock, and Aurelio is not in the condition to oversee that. The responsibilities now fall on her.

"If we can't find her ourselves, we are going to have to involve the police, my love," he says weakly, and Anya's face immediately turns serious.

"No. We are going to find her," she snaps at her husband.

How can he even think about involving the police?

In his moment of weakness, is he already forgetting the cause of all these problems is the police? Does he need to be reminded that as soon as their names come up in the Russians' investigation, they are going to be on every wanted list in the country? And he wants to deliver himself right in the devil's pit before they came knocking on their front door?

She had warned him about telling Makayla the truth...no child, no matter how mature would have taken this news well. This is his consequence, and he is going to have to bear it. She needs to get the hell out of here before all this suffocates her and makes her say something unpleasant.

"I'll go and oversee the new shipment, and look for Kay while I'm out there. Get some rest, and do not do anything stupid while I am gone," she says, kissing him on the forehead, and he nods.

She walks out of the room, fishes her phone out of her purse and dials Arturo.

"Get me some men, guns and armored cars, and let's go and bring my daughter home."
