Chapter 4

~Lucien~

As the carriage arrived, I turned my gaze towards her. Following her gaze, I watched as she stared at her father.

Looking at her eyes, I could see the sadness and loneliness she felt. Could it be because she's moving to a new place? I couldn't tell if she had a good relationship with her father, but I guessed from the scene in front of me, it wasn't a good one.

"Let's go," I said coldly as I made my way into the carriage.

Settling into the chair, she sat in front of me, her gaze fixed outside the carriage. Averting my gaze from her, I fixed my gaze on the moon from the window. What a beautiful sight, I thought to myself.

Turning my gaze to her, I was captivated by her innocence. She closed her eyes slightly as she enjoyed the graze of the night wind on her skin. She looked beautiful as she rested.

Suddenly, she jolted her eyes open as her feet quivered. Surprised at her sudden reaction, I wondered why or what could've caused it.

A thought suddenly popped in my head. It couldn't be what she was thinking about right? Tonight's our wedding night.

But of course I didn't want anything to do with her, least being intimate with her. I have to make things clear to her, we aren't an actual couple, no vows to each other, no need for intimacy or anything of the sort. I just wanted to be alone.

Clearing my throat, I began, "Listen."

Watching her fingers intertwined nervously, I exhaled sharply as I stated, my gaze fixed outside the window, “You are to stay away from me during the time span of our marriage, we both know this isn’t for love and against our will, so we will live according to each other’s terms, there is nothing like intimacy or a wedding night between us, you will stay in a separate room."

"I understand," she responded softly.

We continued our journey in silence. After few hours, we finally arrived home. Riding into the familiar building, I couldn't help but feel shivers run down my spine.

For years I had to live here in turmoil and pain. Past memories flooded my memories as my feelings became overwhelmed. Taking in deep breaths, I made my way out of the carriage.

Turning towards the entrance, I stopped in my tracks realizing my wife wasn't with me. My wife, a word I never knew I'd ever use in my life.

Turning my gaze towards her, I noticed how she stared at everything, her eyes widened, a warm smile plastered on her face, did she think this was heaven?

"This way," I commanded coldly, gesturing towards the stairs as I ascended the stairs shortly.

Arriving at the top, the door swung open as the maids and other servants arranged themselves in an orderly manner.

"Welcome home Luna and Alpha," they greeted in one chorus.

Gabriel and Jade approached swiftly after the greeting.

"This is jade, she'll be your new personal maid," I stated gesturing to Jade.

Turning her gaze to Freya, Jade greeted as she kowtowed slightly, “Greetings Luna."

“And this is Gabriel the butler, I’ll be communicating to you through him,” I said gesturing towards gabriel.

I swiftly departed towards the opposite direction. Ascending the stairs, a surge of emotions rushed through me. I couldn't help but think, am I making the right decision? Is this what I really want? What will happen in future? Will Freya be like the others?

Taking in deep breaths, I approached the door of my solace. The only room which gave me peace. Swinging the door open, I made my way in locking the door behind me.

Falling to my knees, I couldn't help but cry uncontrollably as i looked at her portrait. Mom, why did you die so soon? A sharp ache surged through my veins as I caressed her painting in my hands.

I've felt an empty void ever since. One that can't be filled up nor healed. What broke me more was the fact, I was the cause of her death. Just for being born, she died.

Sniffling, I dried my eyes as I made my way to the window, starring blanky at the empty space.

"Why me?" I muttered, fixing my gaze on the full moon tonight.

I've been alone my entire life. Exhaling sharply, I walked towards the table hanging my mother's portrait back on the wall. Arranging my clothes, I made my way out of the room.

Feeling the ring round my finger, I couldn't help but feel odd. As I walked through the halls, her innocent eyes played in my mind continuously. I reminisced on the taste of her lips, a sudden desire rushed through my veins. I wanted more of her.

No!

What am I doing? I shouldn't be thinking of her. This is definitely wrong, or am I the one in fault? No, it couldn't be me, could it?

I can't get her out of my head, why? Did she bewitch me somehow? Approaching my room, I stopped in my tracks. Looking at Freya, I couldn't help but feel a surge of emotions run through me.

"Can I get a cake?" Freya asked Jade.

Cake? But what for? I told her no intimacy, she dares try and be romantic with me?

"A cake? But why Luna?" Jade asked curious.

"It's my birthday," Freya replied with a wry smile.

Her birthday? Today's her birthday and her father didn't even wish her or announce it? What a pity, now I'm convinced she doesn't have a good relationship with her dad.

Watching as she departed into her room, I made my way into my room swiftly, locking the door behind me.

"Maybe she's alone like I am?" I muttered to myself as I took off my clothes.

Knock!

A knock on the door Interrupted my thoughts.

"Yes," I replied swiftly.

The door swung open as Gabriel made his way inside.

"Prince Lucien, your uncle sends his regards to you and Luna," he stated as he bowed slightly stretching his hands towards me.

He held a scroll which had the official seal on it. What could he want now?

"Drop it on the table, I'll look at it later," I responded turning my back.

"Will that be all sire?" Gabriel asked.

As I was about dismissing him, I stopped in my tracks as a thought crept in, "What kind of presents can I get Freya?" I asked curious.

I was shocked at my own words. But it was her birthday, she's celebrating alone, it's the least I could do right?

"Jewelry is most preferred. They say diamonds are a girls best friend," Gabriel replied excited.

"Get me the most precious diamond you can find," I responded, dismissing him with a wave of my hand.

Making my way to bed, I couldn't help but wonder, where this union would lead?
