Chapter 2

Logan

“Ma’am, you can’t go in there. Ma’am, I’m very sorry, sir, I tried to stop her”, my assistant said as she walked behind a very furious lady. I rolled my eyes as I recognized her from a night a few days ago, and I had to give it to her, she knew how to suck a dick.

“It’s fine, Clara, you can go back to your desk.” I said.

“Yes, bitch, go back to the hole you crawled out from.”

“What do you want, Britney?” I asked as I went back to the files on my desk.

“It’s Beverly, you asshole. How dare you? How dare you ask your stupid henchmen to have me evicted from my house?”

“Look, Barbara, you need to get the hell out of my office, I have things to do. Our time together is over, we had a fun night, it’s morning

and it’s over, so move the hell on and don’t bother me.” I said, calmly. She gasped.

“You know what? Fuck you, Logan. I hope you burn in hell”, she said as he stormed out of the office, slamming the door in her wake.

I sighed as I continued my work. My desk phone rang and I

picked it up.

“Mr. Wesley? What is it Clara?! I answered raising a brow, Mr. Wallace is here for his appointment”, Clara said. I rolled my eyes. Not again, I thought.

“Let him in.” I said, sighing.

“Of course, sir”

A knock on my door broke me out of my thoughts.

“Come in”, I grunted out, my head still buried in the pile of files on my desk.

I heard the door open and close as I raised my head to see Mr. Wallace walk in, his usual confident stride exuding from him

as he walked in.

“Mr. Wallace, good morning, to what do I owe this honor.” I stood

up to give him a handshake, trying as hard as I could to not roll my eyes at him.

“Well, I came so that we could discuss the terms of the contract, seeing as we would soon be in laws” He said, grinning

from ear to ear. He looked too happy to be giving out his daughter just so he could have a couple more zeroes in his bank account.

But I was not surprised, this was Donald Wallace, a man known by all in the business world to be very cunning and deceptive,

willing to do anything and everything to get what he wants, even as far as getting his hands dirty just to achieve his

sadistic aim. It was no wonder he quickly became broke and no one wanted to work with him.

“Is that so?” I asked, fixing my gaze on him and watching his every move.

“Of course, just hear me out”, he slightly stuttered as he adjusted himself in his seat. I observed him. He looked tense, his usual confidence waning.

“Well, you have my audience”. I said as I folded my arms on the desk.

“Well,” he started, looking everywhere but at me.

“I was hoping that, since you are taking my daughter’s hand in marriage, making us a family, that you would reduce the terms of the insurance.it would put a lesser strain on my part

and I know you wouldn’t want that to happen to your father in law to be, would you now, son?”

“I’m not your son.” I said, under my breath.

“What was that?” he asked.

“I said I am not your son.”

“Well,” he started, nervously chuckling as he adjusted himself once again, “I know you are not my son. Well, not biologically, that is. But think about it and the bad image it would bring to my reputation if things go south.” He said.

“Is that so? Well, how about you make sure that nothing goes south, huh?” he was beginning to get on my nerves.

“Well,” he started before clearing his throat and continuing, “come on, son-..

“For the last fucking time, I am not your son.” I said, gritting my teeth. “Call me your son one more fucking time, I dare you.” I was

just about done with this conversation. This weasel of a man knew how to get under my skin every damn time.

“My apologies. But come on, Logan. Just think about it. I already agreed to give you my daughter’s hand in marriage, albeit painfully, the least you can do is give me this little leverage.” He pleaded as I thought about it.

“Hmmm, not to be rude, Mr. Wallace, but seeing as you are on the verge of going completely bankrupt and having more to lose than I do, how about you focus on making sure that this project goes on

very smoothly with no hitches whatsoever instead of trying to butter me up to adjust the contract just to suit your selfish needs, huh?”

I asked, the venom in my voice dripping from every word that came out of my lips as I watched him. The not so subtle change in his expression and the way he adjusted himself on his seat. I knew I had him where I wanted him.

“W…. we….. Well, that is not the point right now.” He said, trying but failing badly to sound smug.

“Then what is?” I asked him, fixing my gaze on him, reveling in the way he twitched in his seat uncomfortably, a small sheen of sweat forming on his head.

“Okay, fine. Yes, I made a few wrong financial decisions. And that is why I need this merger to work so that I would not go bankrupt.

We are both businessmen, I’m sure you would understand.” He said, throwing his hands up in exasperation. Bingo. Just what I needed to hear.

Hmm. One thing we can both agree on. Since we can both agree on the fact that we are both businessmen, we can also both agree that you need to sit up and make sure that neither one of us,

you more than me, loses any money or makes any more ‘few wrong financial decisions’ and runs our businesses to the ground, yes?”

“I know that,” he said. It brought me great joy watching this man who made himself so high and mighty crumble under his gaze.

“B…. but… but then in the event that the contract goes sideways on my part, you can have the assurance that my insurance policy will cover it.” He stuttered.

“Like I said in our numerous previous meetings, I am not satisfied with that.” I said.

“But that is the best I have to offer, what else are you thinking about?”

“I want something more solidifying than that.”

“I’m all ears.”

“I will give you the rights to every detail of the project, as well as the funding. I will only be in as a supervisor and my team will be there to make regular supervisions to make sure that

everything goes wrong. Also, as soon as the wedding is finalized, your daughter, Haley, who by the way, is more

pleasing to look at in person, you will cut off any and every ties you have from her.

I wouldn’t have her more infected with the likes of you anymore. Is that understood?” I said in a matter of fact tone. I had

observed how quiet and calm she was, a sharp contrast to the so-called parents. There was just something about her that just

called to me and held me there.

“What do you mean by that?

“I mean exactly what it is, " I said, Donald. I am literally paying you to have your daughter, and as such, she becomes mine to do

with her as I please.”

“No, you wouldn’t dare.” He said as his face went deathly pale. I smirked.

“Watch me.” I said as I leaned back in my chair.
