Selection 3
Amber
There were two of them. Two Alphas and my father never told me. There was Alpha Jarek and Alpha Kael. Alpha Kael was the one that I insulted. Alpha Jarek was the one who told me to run. Did he tell that to other girls as well?
I was so nervous and I could feel my palms sweating. My father never told me that there were two Alphas. And I had never heard of it. All I knew was that there was a ruthless Alpha that ruled Velmora.
“You will be escorted to your various rooms. Since none of you left, you cannot back out now.” I could feel his eyes on me but I did not dare to look up and my eyes remained fixed on the ground. “Escort them to their rooms. You all have been dismissed.” It was even more fucked that they looked alike. Not everyone would be able to differentiate them and I only felt that something was off because they both carried different auras.
Kael was definitely the straight-up rude one. While Jarek looked like the calculating one. They all looked dangerous and cruel, but while one was fast to act, the other was not.
I quickly turned to leave, but Jarek spoke. “Amber, not you. Stay behind.” I froze on the spot and some of the other girls began to spare glances at me, but none of them dared to stop. After they had all gone, including the guards, Jarek spoke.
“Look at me.” His voice was chilling and I did not move. “Don't make me repeat my words human.” His voice turned deep and cold and I was quick to face him. Fuck, he was handsome.
“I told you to run.” He simply pointed out and I swallowed.
“I cannot leave.” I wanted to. But I was in no position to leave or even run away. And reporting my father to the cops for abuse was not an option. Mom had done it once and they asked mom to go back home and solve her family problems. She ended up in a hospital the next day because dad dealt with her for reporting. He almost killed her. And the upper week, he got her pregnant for my last sibling.
“You should have.” I did not like the way he looked at me. His gaze made me feel so nervous and I felt restless. Why was he doing it? I was not the only girl present.
“Why?” my voice was low. “Why do you want me to leave?” I found myself asking.
“Because,” Jarek slowly began to take slow steps towards me. “This place will break you, Little Amber. How old are you?” He asked and paused just when he was standing not too far from me.
“18.” His eyes narrowed and something flashed in his eyes.
“You are not supposed to be here.” He deadpanned. Emphasizing on every word. “Do you think that you will be able to take us? My brother and I?” The corner of his lips curved up.
“And you've lost the chance to walk away.” My heart was beating so loudly in my chest and he took some steps back from me. What was he thinking? I was dying to know.
Just then, the door to the room opened and someone walked in. “Jarek—” I turned to see who it was, and the person’s voice trailed off once he saw me. He was the photocopy of Jarek.
“I knew you were going to be among the girls. I have been dying to lay my hands on you.” He hissed and I never got a chance to react and the next thing, Kael was in front of me, with his hand wrapped around my neck.
“What did you say earlier?” He hissed and there was pure anger in his eyes as he squeezed my neck. I coughed and struggled but he was stronger and only tightened his hold each time I scratched at his hand. My lungs burned.
“You are going to be the first girl to die here. And I will gladly kill you.” I coughed and he continued suffocating me. Tears gathered in my eyes and Kael looked so intent on killing me. And Jarek? He said nothing. He just stood aside and watched and I remembered catching the smirk that was on his face as Kael choked me. He looked like he was enjoying it.
“But on second thoughts—” He suddenly released me and threw me to the ground like I was a rag doll. I coughed and wheezed, tears rolling down my cheeks as I tried to catch my breath. My life just flashed before my eyes. Kael almost killed me.
“I'm going to take my time to deal with you. By the time that I'm done with you, you will end your life with your own hands.” He stated, looking so pissed.
As I coughed, I turned my head to look at Jarek who had his hands crossed and the moment he smiled, I heard his voice in my head. ‘You should have run when you had the chance.’ I wanted to burst out crying and I actually did.
“Get your stinking presence out of me. It makes me sick. Get out!” Kael snarled at me. “I want to have a word with my brother.” I weakly stood up to my feet and headed towards the door. Just when I opened the door to leave, I overheard Jarek saying.
“Did you feel it?” Then Kael snapped.
“Please don't remind me of that. How is it even possible? Werewolf and Human?” I did not wait around and left before I'd actually lose my ears for listening to their conversation.
