Chapter 10: He's Molesting Me!
Elizabeth exploded, her face contorted with fury, as she jabbed a trembling finger at Kayden. "You idiot! Who do you think you are? How dare you act so arrogant and disrespectful toward my family! If you and Georgia walk out of this room today, you’ll never be part of the Adams family again!"
Kayden raised an eyebrow and gave her a calm, dismissive glance. “Is that right? Well, I’ll be waiting for you to come begging my wife.”
The room fell silent for a beat, then Elizabeth slammed her hand on the table with a thunderous crack, her face flushing green with rage. “Outrageous! Absolutely outrageous!”
As Georgia and Kayden walked away, Jamie leaned back in his chair with a self-satisfied smirk. He muttered under his breath, “Finally got rid of these two. Took less time than I thought, honestly.”
Outside the Adams villa, Georgia’s heart pounded in her chest. She was still reeling from the shock of Kayden dragging her out of the meeting. It was the first time since her grandfather’s death that she’d dared to leave a family gathering before it ended.
For three long years, she’d kept her head down, enduring humiliation for the sake of her parents and the family’s well-being. She worked tirelessly at the company, earning quiet respect, but never dared to speak up. Now this reckless act would surely give her relatives a new excuse to target her—and possibly even her loved ones.
Elizabeth’s parting words rang in her ears: You’ll never be part of this family again.
It wasn’t just an insult; it was a sentence. She’d been banished.
Finally snapping out of her daze, she turned to Kayden. “What were you thinking, Kayden?” she asked, pulling her hand out of his grasp.
Kayden looked at his empty palm, then gave her an awkward smile. “I just couldn’t stand them treating you that way.”
His words caught her off guard, warming her heart in a way she hadn’t expected. She stared at him for a moment, this man she’d spent three years looking after. For the first time, he sounded... different. Like he cared. Like he was more than the simpleton everyone thought he was.
Kayden shifted uncomfortably under her gaze. “What?” he asked, his smile turning sheepish.
Georgia blinked and quickly looked away. “Even if you couldn’t stand it, you shouldn’t have done that. My parents… they’re getting old. They don’t want me to leave the Adams family. It’s where they grew up. It’s all they know.”
Kayden shrugged, looking unbothered. “Why are you so worried? Who said you were leaving the family? In less than two days, they’ll be begging you to come back and sign the contract. I told you, you’re the only one who can do it!”
Georgia frowned, studying him. He sounded so confident, so sure of himself. Has he completely lost it? she wondered. His bravado felt almost delusional, like he really believed he was some kind of savior.
Still, deep down, she knew the truth. Being kicked out of the Adams family was inevitable. Sooner or later, they’d find a reason, and she’d be out. She sighed and shook her head. “Alright, fine. It’s the weekend. I’m going to pick up Leah from school. You go home and get dinner ready.”
Kayden blinked. “Dinner?”
“Yes, dinner,” Georgia said, already reaching into her bag. She pulled out two crisp hundred-dollar bills and her house key. “Go do the shopping. And don’t forget to pick up some fresh vegetables. You did a good job with breakfast this morning, so I’m counting on you to recreate that magic.”
Kayden grinned, taking the money and key. “Got it.”
As Georgia walked toward the school, Kayden watched her go, his grin lingering.
---
By the time evening rolled around, Georgia returned home with Leah in tow. Leah, a high school student, was 18 years old and the spitting image of her older sister. With her ponytail, super-short overalls, and white checkered shirt, she had the effortless charm of a girl who knew she was destined to turn heads.
But today, she wasn’t her usual bubbly self. Georgia had to help her limp inside, and the moment they reached the sofa, Leah collapsed dramatically onto it with a loud groan. “Ow! My foot is killing me,” she whined.
Georgia sighed and headed toward the bathroom. “Stay put. I’ll grab some pain-relief spray.”
Leah clutched her swollen foot, pouting. “This is all Kennedi’s fault! She’s been out to get me ever since I joined the cheer squad. She made me practice this stupid routine over and over, and now look at my foot. I swear she did it on purpose.”
Kayden wandered into the living room, drawn by the commotion. His eyes landed on Leah’s foot. It was small, delicate, and unmistakably swollen.
Georgia and Leah were alike in so many ways—flawless from head to toe, beautiful without even trying.
Leah caught him staring and immediately scowled. “What are you looking at, you idiot? Get lost!”
Kayden didn’t move. He just sat down on the sofa, his gaze calm but unwavering. Leah’s irritation flared. She pulled her foot back and snapped, “Hey! What are you doing? Stop staring at my foot like some kind of pervert!”
Ignoring her protests, Kayden reached out and grabbed her foot. Leah let out a shriek so loud it could’ve shattered glass. “GEORGIA! Georgia, get in here! This creep is molesting me! HE’S MOLESTING ME!”
Georgia walked back into the room, holding the pain-relief spray. Her expression was a mix of confusion and irritation. “Kayden, what are you doing?” she asked, narrowing her eyes at him.
