Seven
Dawn opened her eyes feeling much better. She had slipped in and out of slumber and she needed water to quench her thirst. She made to move and noticed that sharp pains were coming from her arms.
Glancing at her arms, she noticed it was from the needle that was connected to aid her transfusion.
The room was deadly quiet. There was no sound of breathing or movement and that was when she chose to survey her surrounding.
It was a grand room. The kind that a king or queen would live in, in the ancient past or someone highly placed. The materials used for the curtains that surrounded the poster bed in which she lay were soft like silk, and the bedspread felt like soft warm milky water. Gold antiques took up most of the space and the statues in the room looked alive. The tables were made with dark wood that had a really good scent.
She sat up after taking off the syringe, then wobbly put her leg down on the edge of the bed, yawning and stretching her tired muscles. She felt some of her stiff bones cracking under the pressure.
The rug felt good under her feet. For a psycho killer, they took care in designing the house.
Everything was meant to enchant. Even the candles on the candlestick.
She touched her neck slowly and noticed that there were no bite marks or scars. She wondered if she had been hallucinating everything that had happened all along.
How could vampires even be real? They were the hot guys, villains, or monsters in the movies. Not real life. They were created as myths for entertainment purposes only.
They definitely could not be vampires. Like what! She scoffed at the absurdity of it all.
They were psychopathic kidnappers who needed to be locked up in an asylum. She also needed to escape the beautiful hell hole. She wouldn't stay until they decided to suck her blood dry. How could such beautiful people be crazy tho? Who would even suspect them? If anyone even knew who they were, that is.
If they believed that they were vampires then the world was definitely upside down cause then she'd be a fucking billionaire werewolf, she thought with a broken laugh
She tried to stand up and felt a wave of dizziness sweep through her, almost knocking her back on the bed. She grabbed at the headboard, closing her eyes tightly as she tried to steady herself until the wave passed, and then it was like an idea popped up like a light switch in her head.
"Of course. How could I not have thought of that? After all those vampire movies that I binged on as a kid, you'd think I'd be more equipped for a situation like this. A stake was all I needed. A stake to the heart! Not like I could ever carry it through cause am not a murderer duh! And I can't believe I am freaking talking to myself" she yelled throwing her hands up in frustration, before wiping them across her face.
She bit her fingers as she weighed her options.
"They're allergic to garlic and holy stuff, right? I just have to get my hands on a clover of garlic, or a freaking cross"
"And where do you presume you'd find that?" He spoke suddenly, shocking her almost out of her mind and an embarrassing yelp escaped her lips as she jumped back. She felt the mortification creeping up her cheeks. Graceful much! Dawn swore because she was starting to lose her priorities, what did she care if she wasn't graceful when more troubles were looming ahead of her?
She watched him skeptically. "How long have you stood there?" She asked because she had not noticed him throughout her rant session. It was odd that he was suddenly in front of her.
He pushed away from the wall, his steps graceful. "Long enough. If you want to be safe then you'll have to trust me and stay here for your good"
"Like I'd ever believed anything that you tell me. You sucked my blood to the point of death without even asking for my permission" she accused hotly and he suddenly looked thoughtful.
"So if I'd asked for your permission, you wouldn't have minded it much?"
"Are you nuts!" She blurted out then caught herself before she added more stuff that could get her into trouble. "They're looking for me you know, If they don't see my pretty face for more than a day, you'll be shocked when you see them swarming your mansion" she threatened. People would definitely know that she was gone if she didn't show up at her workplace for two whole days.
He shrugged, looking unfazed.
"I could always make them forget your existence, just a word and it will be as if you never moved to this town. You will stay here with me until I say otherwise. I'm doing this for your own good Dawn, you don't know it but your kind is rare, which is why I'm sure that other vampires are on the search for you"
Dawn scoffed. "Can you even hear yourself? Not everyone is as crazy as you are. There are no other vampires. You can't keep me here, you can't!" she yelled in frustration.
Seth's gaze darkened, he was getting angry, that much she could tell since his eyes changed colors whenever he got upset.
"It's good to know you're not so dumb. Yes you are upsetting me and if you keep it up I might just let you walk out of here and let's see how long you last"
"Really, and you think this information wouldn't make me want to upset you more?"
"Once you leave here, you will feel excruciating pain because you'd lack my presence. I've already claimed you as mine Dawn Atkins and you'll begin to want me, you'll even begin to need me sexually too. It's just a matter of days and separation" he said in a serious tone, his voice laced with a subtle warning that she only found ridiculous.
"Wow! I guess it runs in the family to have a problem with your thinking faculty. I will never feel that attraction to you. You're a monster and your mother is probably ashamed to give birth to a...." She didn't get to finish because with the speed of lightning, his hand was wrapped around her throat and her back connected with the wall in the most painful manner possible. Dawn struggled against his hold, her nails scratching at his skin as his grip tightened on her neck. It got hard for her to focus on which pain to pay more attention to.
Darkness clouded her vision and she blinked in panic. Red furious eyes stared into hers, almost as if he revealed in the feel of her gasping and desperate for air.
There was no emotion in his eyes even when she gasped in pain from his fingers cutting into her skin. Her blood dripped over his hand as she clawed and scratched at him with her nails. Her eyes begged to be freed.
"I would be careful of how I speak from now on if I were you. Just because I act nice doesn't mean I am" he said in a voice as cold as frost. She felt the chills as darkness clouded her gaze again.
"You're right, I'm a monster and it will make your nightmares scarier if I act like one" he whispered, and just as abruptly, his hands left her neck. She barely had a chance to recover when she felt the excruciating pain of fangs digging into her shoulder blades. She screamed out in agony feeling helpless as he began to drink.
Dawn grabbed at his shirt as the pain lessened and the cold feeling once again returned. She didn't want to be so cold anymore, one close encounter with death was enough.
He drew back, her blood smeared across his lips. His eyes fluttered close, then he licked the remnants of her blood from his lips. He let out a low groan, his head thrown back, while he still held unto her.
He was beautiful. She couldn't believe she would even consider that possibility, but it was so vivid at that moment when she stood between light and dark what a beautiful work of art he was.
The darkness won in the end and she slipped into it, getting dragged down by its cold clutches. She saw his face just before she succumbed. He looked uncertain and worried. She didn't care if it was just her imagination.
That was enough to spark hope in her...
She would get away from the beast.
