Chapter 6: Lucan

It’s not that they would treat me with violence or physically abuse me. I was just simply… neglected. I was just there in the house… living with them. Sky was the only one who had treated me better. Maybe because she was the one who made that request. They should’ve aborted me. Maybe life would be better for everyone. I was an extra baggage, a burden to them, especially with the unending medical bills.

Werewolf. I have heard that word countless times when I was a child but I paid no heed to it until I was eleven. I love books. I love to read, especially novels. It was a form of escape from reality. My curiosity piqued and so I researched about it. They were mythical creatures, slave to the moon. I continued to read about them with fleeting interest. I knew they were impossible. But why were my family discussing them like they truly exist?

As I grew, I managed to forget about them. I focused on my life and worked hard so they could finally notice me.

But I knew it was just wishful thinking.

Lucan

Documents that were placed on the table flew to the floor. Paperweight, pens and others shattered against the floor.

In my fit of anger, I swiped everything that was placed neatly on top of my desk. The memory of war and deaths made my blood boil. The death of my parents and my ten-year-old brother– it only ignited my lust for revenge.

That girl’s family was the reason why my pack had lost greatly. I had been observing them for months, planning ways to exact my revenge. Planning another war after the other will do us no good. We already lost so much just because they caught us off guard. They obviously have planned this for a long time, considering they made sure my beta and I were nowhere in sight.

I found out that Henry Elsher, the hunters’ leader, and his entire family are hunters. His wife and his three daughters. I later found out that he has actually four daughters and the youngest did not join them. The girl had no idea that her family are actually hunters but seemed to be aware of our kind.

When I saw her arrive at her home, an idea struck in my mind. What would that fucker think if his very own youngest daughter became one of us? The thought that he did not let her be included in their dangerous group meant the little girl was too precious for her life to be put at risk. Although my beta and Rose were not too happy with my plans.

“Alpha…” Julian stopped short when he saw me carrying a girl in my arms. The shock on his face was just too obvious that he couldn’t even hide it.

“Summon Alina.” He had stood frozen for a while before he realized my order.

Alina did not waste time. She arrived as soon as she was called. Curiosity marred her face before it turned into disbelief. She sauntered towards the unconscious girl lying on the bed. Julian was standing just by the door watching us.

Alina moved the collar of the girl’s shirt and watched in shock the moment she found the mark where her neck and shoulder meet. She turned to me while looking at me as if I had lost my sanity.

“You…”

I cut her off. “She did not succeed in turning. I want you to find out why and do something about it.” She frowned, giving it a thought before submitting to my demands.

Alina isn’t a werewolf. She’s a witch. She's been a family friend for a long time. We had helped each other countless times. She’s one of the people I trust the most.

“Lucan…” She sighed, closing her eyes. “Of all the humans you could choose to bite and turn, it had to be an extremely weak one.”

My eyebrows furrowed. “What do you mean?”

“She’s weak physically. It’s her heart. It’s fragile and unwell. It’s the reason why the shift was not successful. Her wolf might have recoiled to protect her or they will both die in the process.”

I clenched my fists. I don’t want her to die. That’s just too soon and too easy. I refused to fail. “Tell me what we should do.”

“We could delay her shift and make sure that she’s well enough to let her wolf out. I will put a spell on her to pause or suppress her urge to shift. She will remain human for as long as the spell works.”

“Good.” I found relief in her solution.

Once she was done with her spell, I thanked her. However, her stare didn’t mean she was done. “We need to talk, Lucan.” She said, looking at me solemnly.

My back straightened knowing where this conversation is going. Alina is always aware of what I’m up to despite rarely showing her face here.

“That mark on her shoulder is gonna bite you in the ass someday. You sacrificed your mate mark for the sake of revenge. You have forgotten how sacred it is.”

“I appreciate your help, Alina, always, but this isn’t your business. I choose who to mark and you have no say on that.” I gritted my teeth in response.

She shakes her head. Her disappointment was not hidden. “You are insane. She’s innocent, Lucan. Look at her and look at her well. She is now your mate. You might’ve done this for revenge but she is now your pack’s Luna-”

“Enough!” I roared in fury. I do not want to hear those words altogether. Alina flinched in surprise. “She will never be their Luna. She will never be my mate. When she shifts, I’m going to send her to her father and let that bastard kill her himself. And I will watch that happen before my eyes.”

“I hope for you to realize it soon, Lucan.”
