Chapter 6 - She might be in danger

CAELLUM’S POV

She pulled the trigger. That was all I could think about as I walked into my darned office.

That woman meant to kill me. I couldn’t shake off the anger and shock I felt from her attempted murder. The Moon Goddess sure knew to pick them well.

“Alpha.” I heard Matteo’s voice from my door.

He was my beta, second in command and aide. “Come in.” I took a seat, and he walked in.

“Here are the files you ordered.” He placed the documents on my table.

That was Matteo - Straight to the point and efficient in everything he did. I couldn’t have chosen a better second in command.

“How is the business?” I picked up the file he brought. When I met my mate, I ordered a thorough checkup and investigation on her. “Is there a problem?”

“Nothing much,” Matteo said but I knew that tone.

That was his tone when he meant to say major shit went down but he took care of it. However, I always wanted to be in the loop, no matter how busy I was, I made sure to always show up to deal with any bastard that thought to cross me.

“Who is it?” I asked, meeting his eyes.

Matteo held my gaze. “One of the men. We found out that the fool was selling our coke to the Bravta’s at a subsidized rate after telling us it was seized by the feds during his travel to America.”

I looked through the first page of the file. Naledi’s file. Reading her basic information on the first page. Naledi Rogers, 22, sniper and assassin, Bravta pack. That explained her closeness to that fool Alek.

She is an assassin. Interesting. That means I got lucky. I refrained from opening the other layers of information. Why read when I could break her and find out myself?

I attended to the matter at hand. “Where is the Cazzo?” I asked in my language, breathing fury.

Good thing I was looking for something to vest my anger on.

“Locked up in the basement.”

I nodded. “I’ll be there in a few minutes.”

My eyes returned to the closed file of my mate, expecting Matteo to leave but he stood firm. “Is there something else?” I asked without meeting his eyes.

“It’s about the Lady, alpha.” My attention was captured at the mention of her.

“And what about her?” I sneered, not in the mood to deal with her rebellious ass.

“She might be in danger.”

I looked up at Matteo, and corked an eyebrow. “What in heaven’s name are you talking about?”

“The lady. News has gone out of her being your mate.”

“And so?”

“She is now a target.” He pointed to the closed file on my table. “During my research on her, I found out I wasn’t the only one looking. Many people were anxious to know who she is and I believe it is a result of her bond with you.”

I silently contemplated his words. Of course, I drew attention to my mate at a ball filled with enemies and soon-to-be enemies of my empire. If only she hadn’t caused a scene and moved on like the ,mate she was supposed to be, then this shit wouldn’t be happening.

“I already brought her here. There’s little they can do to her under my watch.”

Matteo shook his head. “You were ready to declare a war for her in the presence of all the important figures in the business. You revealed a weakness.”

I took a deep breath. Damn that woman for making me lose my wits in that ball. “Wipe her name from the face of the earth. I want every record and information of her to disappear before the break of dawn.”

“Yes Alpha.”

Matteo left my office as a man with a mission. While I prepared to let loose my anger on the fool who thought to deceive me.

***********

It’s been a while since I came to the basement.

In fact, I tried not to frequent the darned place because it only meant one thing. Someone had messed up badly and needed to pay or be taught a lesson.

I walked into the place and the smell of rotten flesh greeted me. Dressed in a tan top and black joggers, I walked into the dungeon where the fool was kept hostage.

One look at the fool and I knew Matteo had done a great job. He was bloodied, his skin covered with all sorts of wounds and injuries I believed were placed there by my second in command.

I didn’t like to get my hands dirty. I preferred to make my enemies suffer in the cruelest ways, but I hated the messiness that came with it.

That was where Matteo came in handy. He enjoyed the goriness of inflicting pain and dismembering his enemies to the point they begged for death while I was the angel that came to send them to the fiery pits of hell, using tactful and memorable ways.

“Alpha.” The guards chorused as soon as they saw me, bowing their heads in respect.

I walked past them and into the dungeon. The eyes of the fool went large as soon as he saw me. “A-Alpha...” He stuttered, jittering.

I loved the effect I had on people. Especially on backstabbers I brought up and gave a better life.

“Carlos,” I called and he was frightened.

“Please. Please Alpha! I promise I won’t do it again. Please, forgive me this once!” He begged and I smirked at his pleas.

They only get sorry when they get caught.

I’ve been in business long enough to know there was no repentance for a backstabber and snitch. The only solution for those kinds of people, amongst others, was death. A slow, painful and memorable death that would serve as a deterrent to others.

“Untie him,” I ordered and a look of relief graced his face.

“Thank you, Alpha! Thank you so much! I won’t let you down.” Carlos’ eyes watered as he was set free from the chains that held him. He collapsed to the floor, unable to use his legs.

Again, Matteo had done an awesome job. I wondered the best way to make an example of him. The best method to kill him, and leave a lasting impact on the others uncaught.

My eyes widened when I remembered one little detail.

“Carlos.” I said and he looked up at me, “You once told me you hated heights.” I reminded and the aghast look on his face told me I’d been spot on.

I motioned to the guards who carried him up. “Take him to the roof.”

It didn’t take an hour before we got to the roof with Carlos tied like a goat for slaughtering.

“I picked you from the streets half dead. Treated you, and gave you a new life. And you lie to my face, steal from me and ally with my enemies?”

Carlos shook his head, “No... Please, spare me. Please!”

“There is only room for one of us on earth.” I said with a cold voice,

I didn’t need to speak before my men grabbed him and placed him at the tip of the roof. One little movement and he was good as dead.

“See you in hell.” I pushed him over the rim with one foot and he screamed, freefalling down my mansion.

Halfway to the ground, I pulled out my pistol and with one bullet, I shot at his heart, killing him with his eyes open.
