Chapter 21 Battlefield of Men
Suddenly, a discordant voice intruded from a distance, shattering the damn ambiguity.
Keith approached with a gloomy face, forcibly separating the two and swiftly throwing a punch at Melvin's face.
Melvin couldn't dodge in time and grunted in pain, forced back two steps by the punch.
He licked the metallic taste, wiping away the bloodstain at the corner of his mouth with his hand.
Lyra had already been shielded by Keith at his back, and when she saw him being hit, a fleeting concern flashed in her eyes, replaced by a delighted expression, as if she wanted to applaud.
Dare to bully her? A punch is too light!
He deserves to be tortured to death, this bastard!
"I heard Mr. Freeman already has a new girlfriend and is still pestering your ex-wife. That's not good, is it?" Keith smirked, returning to his usual mild and noble demeanor as if he hadn't been the one who punched someone just now.
Melvin raised his gaze to meet Keith's, not conceding an inch even with bruises on his face.
"After all, the ex-wife was once a wife. Mr. Lloyd, what position do you have to protect my ex-wife?" He deliberately emphasized the word "my," like a proud lion, declaring sovereignty in the face of an enemy eyeing its prey.
Just because I'm her brother!
The smile on Keith's face gradually faded.
But he didn't say those words because Lyra tightened her grip on his arm.
He snorted, "Mr. Freeman is really interesting. Lyra is an independent-minded person. She has the right to choose who she wants and who she doesn't. Why does Mr. Freeman arrogantly claim her as your own?"
Their gazes met, and their auras clashed, neither yielding.
Their eyes seemed to be fighting in the air, desperately wanting to kill each other but unable to determine a winner after several rounds.
The smell of gunpowder permeated the entire garage.
Lyra was about to be suffocated by this tension. She had been working all day and was exhausted. She just wanted to end this damn battlefield as soon as possible.
She coughed heavily twice. "It's getting late, and tomorrow is a workday. Mr. Lloyd and Mr. Freeman should both leave."
Seeing that she was about to leave, Melvin took a few steps forward, intending to stop her.
Keith stepped forward, blocking him, his eyes flashing with coldness and warning.
After all, they were in the territory of his company, and Melvin couldn't be too arrogant in front of him. He smiled and looked at Lyra. "You haven't had dinner, have you? How about we have a meal together tonight and have a good chat?"
Lyra didn't hesitate.
"Not hungry, won't eat, won't chat!"
Melvin's face turned as dark as a pan, but Keith chuckled.
His little princess was straightforward in her speech!
Seemingly gaining a small victory, Keith provocatively locked eyes with Melvin and asked Lyra, "Lyra, it's getting dark. Let me take you home?"
Lyra turned her head and saw the intense confrontation between the two men ignite once again.
She was speechless. Here we go again...
She really wished that God would take both of these men away, giving her some peace and quiet.
Sighing wearily, she said, "No need, I'll familiarize myself with the route on my own."
After speaking, she quickly got into her Volkswagen Santana and drove away.
Meanwhile, the two men in the garage were still in a showdown.
BBecause Lyra didn't accept Keith's invitation, Melvin gained an advantage. He smiled meaningfully and said, "It seems Mr. Lloyd doesn't really know my ex-wife."
Keith glanced at him coldly. "I grew up with her since we were kids. I know her better than you."
Upon hearing this, Melvin's face slightly changed.
Seeing his reaction, Keith felt triumphant. "I advise Mr. Freeman to focus on the person in front of him and stop daydreaming about someone he has lost and can never have again."
After speaking, Keith briskly walked upstairs with Jalen.
Luckily, he had seen it on the surveillance cameras and immediately ordered the lower level of the garage to be blocked off, forbidding any employees from going down. Otherwise, his little princess would be caught in trouble again.
In the garage, Melvin stood upright. The dim lighting cast a shadow over his face, making it difficult to discern his thoughts.
Fred watched his boss from a distance, feeling increasingly annoyed.
Boss was actually confronting Keith for Lyra. Didn't he realize that he cared about Lyra?
But was it fair to Miss Matthews?
She was such a good girl, sent overseas by Old Freeman because of their CEO. How much hardship had she endured over the years?
Moreover, the boss had promised to marry Miss Matthews and take good care of her. Now, treating her like this, it was truly heartbreaking.
Fuming with anger, he quietly sent a text message to Charlotte, briefly explaining what had happened today. He hoped that after Miss Matthews saw it, she could win back the CEO's heart.
"Fred, let's go!"
Suddenly, Melvin shouted and quickly got into the car, waiting for Fred to come and drive.
Fred collected his thoughts and hurriedly took his place in the driver's seat.
...
Lyra was lost.
The damn navigation system wasn't working properly. It kept showing a weak signal, and she happened to be driving through the most complicated multi-way intersection in Frayton. She had been led astray by the navigation.
She had already circled the same route twice.
By chance, she noticed a car behind her that seemed familiar. She suddenly realized that the car had been following her since earlier.
Through the rearview mirror, she saw the familiar license plate on the car, FA66699.
Melvin's car?
Lyra instantly became furious. Why was this jerk still following her?!
She wished she could get out of the car right away, drag that jerk out, beat him up, and kick him to the far side of the moon where she couldn't see him.
But she only thought about it. The incident in the garage made it clear to her that this jerk had a greater combat ability than her.
If she couldn't fight him, then she had to run!
Lyra accelerated, planning to lose the tail by finding more complex streets.
In the car behind her, Fred asked, "Boss, our people have disrupted Miss Carroll's navigation, but she seems to have noticed us. She's no longer following the route we planned for her. She wants to shake us off."
Melvin stared intently at the Volkswagen Santana in front of him, which made him more and more agitated. A nameless anger raged within him.
How dare she be so bold and showy in flaunting this car!
Without Keith's interference this time, he had to take action.
If he didn't teach her a lesson and make her realize the consequences of angering him, Melvin would have to write his name backward!
"Speed up and find an opportunity to overtake her, then force her car to stop safely."
"Yes."
The two cars raced at high speed on the highway.
But Lyra's small Volkswagen Santana was no match for Melvin's Lamborghini Huracan. The acceleration of the two cars was simply in different leagues.
Seeing Melvin's car catching up and about to overtake her, Lyra clenched her teeth and focused on observing the intersection ahead. She saw a traffic light not far in front.
A cunning smile appeared on her face as she made a calculation.
When she approached the intersection, just before the last meter of the solid dividing line, she sharply turned the steering wheel and drove into the left turn lane. Then, taking advantage of the last second of the yellow light, she pressed the accelerator and rushed through.
By the time Melvin's car realized her intention, the light had turned red.
Through the rearview mirror, Lyra saw him forced to stop, gradually getting farther away from her. She felt exhilarated!
He wanted to compete with her in driving skills?
Melvin was too inexperienced!
She was feeling triumphant when suddenly, two black cars emerged from both sides of the intersection. Judging from their aggressive approach, they seemed determined to force her to stop.
Were there others targeting her too?!
