Chapter 14 Why is Mr. Freeman jealous
Lyra raised her swan-like neck and gestured towards Sheila on the ground. "Why don't you ask her yourself?" she replied, her eyes fixed on Sheila. In her current state, Sheila could only cough and point at Lyra in frustration, unable to utter a word.
Witnessing this, Charlotte looked disappointedly at Lyra and said with a pained expression, "Lyra, she may have said something inappropriate just now, but she has apologized. How can you seek revenge on her like this? She's just a little girl. You used to be kind-hearted before, why have you changed?"
This statement shifted the focus of the conflict towards Lyra's deliberate retaliation. Sheila nodded vigorously, coughing and crying, appearing genuinely wronged. The crowd began to whisper among themselves, and as the victim happened to be the Freeman family's daughter, their sentiment leaned towards Sheila. People joined in to accuse Lyra.
Melvin remained silent, his eyes fixed on Lyra, his expression deep and unreadable. Lyra felt uncomfortable under his gaze and asked coldly, "You know your sister's personality better than anyone. Do you also believe that I deliberately sought revenge on her?"
He pursed his lips and remained noncommittal, his expression somewhat inscrutable. Lyra sarcastically smiled, considering her question absurd. When has Melvin ever believed her? But whether he believed it or not, she couldn't be bothered to explain.
She turned to leave but was stopped by several socialites who were usually friendly with Sheila. "Hold on! You can't just hit someone and walk away. It's not that simple!" they said, blocking her path.
"That's right! If you don't give an explanation to Sheila today, you won't leave through this door," they added. Lyra sneered disdainfully, about to retort, when Keith pushed through the crowd and stood in front of her.
As these socialites laid eyes on Keith, their faces lit up, and they eagerly joined in. "Mr. Lloyd, now you see, this woman is extremely malicious and has an evil face!"
"That's right, Mr. Lloyd, you must help Sheila get justice. Besides, how can this woman deserve someone of your status?"
Keith's face remained expressionless as he adjusted his tie and slowly took off his suit jacket. While the socialites admired his action, he gently draped the jacket over Lyra's shoulders, his gaze full of indulgence. "It's getting late, don't catch a cold."
The crowd was shocked by this scene, and the previously unfriendly voices towards Lyra abruptly stopped. The socialites were envious, wishing they could kill Lyra with their eyes. Meanwhile, Keith casually put his arm around Lyra's shoulder and said, "It's getting late, let's go back."
Lyra nodded in agreement. Just as they turned away, Charlotte’s unsettling voice came from behind. "Mr. Lloyd, it's an undeniable fact that she bullied Sheila. Are you really going to protect her?"
Keith turned back, but locking eyes with Melvin. "My Lyra never starts a trouble unless someone provokes her. Mr. Freeman, if you don't believe me, we can check the hotel surveillance footage or go to the police station to clear things up."
The possessive tone in the words "my Lyra" carried both intimacy and affection. Melvin was taken aback, clenching his fist as he looked at Keith embracing the petite Lyra.
Based on their familiarity, did they know each other when they were married?
Melvin’s tone was serious as he asked, "Have you ever been disloyal to me?"
The crowd suddenly erupted into a commotion. Mr. Freeman's words, why... sounded a bit jealous?
Lyra felt as if she had heard a great joke and met Melvin's gaze. "In our three years of marriage, I have betrayed you. As for your question, it should be me asking it," she said, her eyes filled with irony as she glanced at Charlotte, who was holding Sheila. Then, without looking back, she left the Grand Esther Hotel with Keith.
The crowd exploded with chatter!
