Chapter 11 The Coopers' Fury

Hannah paused and then added, "By the way, Grandma, you called me back today to talk about my marriage with Charles, right?"

Lorie was surprised that Hannah had figured it out. However, things were not exactly the same as what she had experienced in her past life, including last night's events and the trending today. She was able to guess it all because the people at the old Cooper mansion had always colluded privately with the Sawyer family. They secretly wanted to seize the inheritance from her father through the Sawyers. Now Hannah had embarrassed the Sawyer family, so Lorie had to come and teach her a lesson on behalf of them. However, she didn't expect Hannah to be so unyielding now, directly exposing her intentions!

"Well, since we're here, let me be blunt with Grandma. Yes, I did accept a gemstone from Oscar last night and humiliated Charles in front of everyone." Hannah said, taking out the dazzling blue gemstone.

Its colorful radiance, perfect cut, historical significance, and rarity made women go crazy for it. Even Lorie couldn't help but look at it a few more times. But she showed nothing but contempt for Hannah's actions. Her face was full of disdain as she said, "Are you not ashamed? Cheeky! You have a fiancé, yet you still have relationships with other men?!"

"I had my reasons for accepting the gemstone. First, we, the Cooper family, are merchants. Merchants don't refuse windfalls that fall from the sky. Oscar's gift, I had no reason to decline. Second, I knew Grandma is a collector of gemstones, and when I saw this gemstone, I knew you would love it. So, if it weren't for Oscar's interference, I would have bought it. Although I didn't buy it, Oscar was willing to give it up, so why not accept it?" Hannah explained.

Lorie still hadn't fully grasped what she was saying. Then she heard Hannah say, "I intended to give this gemstone to you, Grandma."

Lorie was intrigued. She had heard about this piece of jewelry from others, but she knew she couldn't afford it, so she never mentioned it. Now, it suddenly appeared in front of her. How could she remain completely indifferent?

"Just now, Aunt Esther asked if my mom didn't bring a gift for Grandma. We did bring one. Unfortunately..." Hannah smirked, "Grandma just said that you didn't appreciate our things."

Lorie truly regretted it. The words "thank you" couldn't come out of her mouth anymore. Clearly, Hannah didn't give her any chance to take it back. She stared fiercely at Hannah, at the sparkling blue gemstone on her finger, and truly felt regretful.

"Don't show off here! Do you think mom can be tempted by such a small gift?" Esther quickly interrupted.

Lorie glared at Esther fiercely.

What a fool!

Hannah could tell from Lorie's expression that she regretted it now. She probably didn't expect that Hannah would give her a gemstone. Since they had brought the gemstone here, Lorie had to believe what Hannah said. Lorie was probably feeling uneasy.

Hannah quickly agreed with Esther, "Aunt Esther, you’re right. Grandma would never change her principles for just this blue gemstone. And she never goes back on her word."

"Of course not!" Esther replied without hesitation.

Roger immediately understood what was going on and quickly called out to his wife, "That's enough, you need to hold your tongue."

Esther gave Roger a disapproving look. Lorie took a deep breath and said, "I don't care why you accepted Oscar's gem last night, and I don't have time to argue about these trivial matters with you. I just want to warn you, don't mess up your marriage with the Sawyer family. Charles is a great guy, and you're not even worthy of him. You better please him!"

"My marriage doesn't require your concern." Hannah retorted calmly.

"You think I want to be concerned? I'm just afraid that with your conditions, the Sawyer family might break off the engagement. Do you think Charles can't do without you?!" Lorie continued to belittle her granddaughter.

Hannah pondered, realizing that her lack of self-confidence in her past life might have been influenced by Lorie.

"I don't know if he can't do without me, but I can tell you that I'm not dependent on him. So, Grandma, you don't need to pretend to care about my marriage suddenly. After all, back then, when Grandpa wanted to betroth me to Charles, you vehemently opposed it." Hannah laid everything bare.

"What are you saying?" Lorie was once again provoked by Hannah's words.

"You wanted to arrange a marriage between Charles and Jane back then, right? You even used various means to threaten and force my grandfather. Although you didn't succeed in the end, your sudden concern about my marriage now makes me think you have some ulterior motives."

"Hannah, you ungrateful girl, you—" Lorie's embarrassment quickly turned into anger.

"I just reminded you earlier. I'm not foolish enough to stay here and make everyone uncomfortable. Before we leave, let me add a few more words." Hannah showed no regard for Lorie's fury, her expression remaining calm.

She continued, "It's best for you to stay out of Cooper family affairs, Grandma. You're not getting any younger, and it's time for you to enjoy your later years. Besides, we can handle our own matters, so it's better for you to let go."

"What, are you mocking me for being too nosy?" Lorie sneered.

"Grandma knows deep down," Hannah said, not giving Lorie any face at all.

Lorie's face turned red, whether due to embarrassment or anger.

"Take care of yourself, Grandma. We're heading back now." Hannah said nonchalantly.

She knew Lorie too well. If they gave her a little bit of face, she would take advantage of her age and shamelessly create troubles everywhere. From now on, Hannah was determined to suppress her completely. Hannah held her mother's hand, ready to leave. But before leaving, she seemed to think of something. Thus, she turned back.

This time, she addressed Roger, "Uncle Roger, it's not the weekend today, why didn't you go to the office?"

"And Wayne and Jane didn't go either?"

"What are you trying to say?" Roger glared fiercely at Hannah.

"Nothing," Hannah smiled faintly, "I just suddenly understood why Grandpa chose my dad as the heir back then. If he had chosen Uncle Roger, the family would have gone bankrupt by now."

"Hannah, do you think you can disrespect your elders like this? Believe me, I'll slap you!" Roger stepped forward, ready to hit Hannah.
