Chapter 3 I Forget the Wedding Anniversary

I remembered there was a time when Godfrey had a stomachache. I took leave to bring him medicine at his office. I got drenched in the rain and looked quite disheveled, which led his colleagues to make fun of me. Godfrey not only didn't defend or care for me but also felt I embarrassed him, telling me never to come to his office again.

After hearing my words, Godfrey grabbed my arm, protesting, "Elsie, how long are you going to be upset with me over Sirena?"

"I've told you there's nothing between her and me!"

I just looked at him calmly and said, "Hmm, okay."

He stood up and slammed the door as he left.

Godfrey didn't come home for several days after that, and I didn't ask where he went. On the fourth day, he suddenly messaged me, saying he was on a business trip and even sent his location. I replied, “Okay, be safe.”

A while later, I saw Sirena's update on Instagram. "First time in Chicago. Loving the pizza here. He insisted on buying it for me." In the corner of the photo, there was a man’s hand. I recognized our wedding ring on Godfrey's hand. Sirena's location matched the one Godfrey sent me. I took off my wedding ring and tossed it into a drawer.

That day, Godfrey unexpectedly came to pick me up from work. I was so busy that I worked overtime.

"Why are you here?"

He got out of the car and opened the passenger door for me. "Today is our wedding anniversary. Didn't you remember?"

I froze for a moment before reacting. "Ah, sorry, I've been busy and forgot."

Godfrey stared blankly for a few seconds and asked in confusion, "Elsie, you used to care so much about these things. You once got very angry when I forgot. How could you forget now?"

In the past, whether it was Valentine's Day, his birthday, Christmas, or our wedding anniversary, I never forgot and always dragged him to celebrate a romantic time together.

But what did he do back then?

When I wore a new dress full of ceremony and waited for him on the street with flowers in my arms, not only did he show disgust on his face but also felt embarrassed and publicly questioned me, "Elsie, do you know how uncomfortable this makes people? Everyone is watching us."

Then he dragged me away.

So now, what right does he have to ask me this?

He pushed me into the passenger seat when he said, "Let's go have a big meal to celebrate our anniversary."

While driving, Godfrey kept glancing at me sideways. "Elsie, what's wrong? Are you unhappy?"

I shook my head. "No."

He said with some restraint, "I've come to celebrate our anniversary and take you out for dinner. Can't you stop being mad?"

I found it a bit amusing. "I'm really not angry."

He sighed deeply, "Fine. I'll promise you I won't contact Sirena anymore. Are you satisfied now?"

I stared at him.

He kept driving while looking at me intermittently, "We cool?"

I didn't say anything.

The car drove to a luxurious restaurant where Godfrey had made a reservation in advance.

The waiter came over with flowers. Many people looked at me enviously.

"Oh my god, how romantic her husband is!"

"When will my husband do that?"

My hand just touched the flowers when Godfrey's phone rang.

"Fever? Do you have any medicine?" he asked the person on the other end of the line.
