Chapter 5
Inside the upscale restaurant, everyone was sitting around.
It was a little awkward for everyone because I joined in.
Matt, also known as Mr. Hemmings in the Kelly family demographic is dressed in an expensive leisure suit and a million dollar watch, he does look like a rich kid.
It's no wonder that the ever-proud Leah is so proud of this boyfriend.
Rachel stood up and complimented Matt, "Mr. Hemmings, our Leah is in your hands from now on, she's grown up smart and good, you've got to treat her right."
Matt, dressed in full formal attire, smiled back, "I will."
The atmosphere was instantly happy, if only Leah hadn't messed with me.
Leah raised her eyebrows, her face full of undisguised smugness, and laughed:
"Jane, someone is playing the piano up there, I remember you were a good piano player when you were a kid, so today is such a good day, go up and show us how to play."
I blushed, how dare she mention it.
I snorted, "What are you pretending? Don't you know if I'm learning or not?"
"Who was the one who danced badly in the first place, and said it was a matter of interest classes, dying to go to the best dance course in the city, a lesson is 3000 dollars, thanks to your blessing, the piano is sold, what do I learn?"
Matt, Leah's boyfriend, looked straight at Leah and a flash of surprise crossed his face.
"Leah, aren't you sisters?"
Leah instantly turned pale, as if she didn't expect me to expose her at this point, and screamed, red-faced, "Jane Wilson!"
Rachel frowned back and snapped, "Jane, don't be ridiculous, apologize!"
At first, Leah had no talent for dancing, but also had a high opinion of herself and was determined to learn, so everyone spoiled her and really enrolled her in the best training class.
The family's financial situation took a sharp turn for the worse, and I became that victim.
Rachel, bent on being a good wife and stepmother, agreed without hesitation, again avoiding my incredulous gaze and hesitating:
"Jane, you have to sympathize with your mom, stepmothers are not easy to be ah, you put up with it a little longer. Mom knows that you like to play the piano, I promise you, after the family's economy gets better, I will definitely let you go to learn the piano."
After that, there was no after.
Looking at her annoyed look, I hooked up the corner of my mouth and laughed, "Ah, sorry sis, I was just joking, since you want to see it, I'll play a song for you."
After that, I walked straight to the stage, looking at the familiar keys, all the memories of the past days crossed my mind, my fingertips touched the keys, and a rousing Croatian rhapsody rang out in the audience.
Everyone looked at me, the incredulity of the Kelly family, the jealousy of Leah, and the awe in Matt's eyes.
I was forced to give up piano when I was ten years old, but I didn't say so, and I haven't learned since.
My foster parents' family was not short of money, and when they saw that I liked it, they hired the best teachers to teach me.
After the song, I walked off the stage.
Looking at Leah's face twisted with jealousy, I smiled, "Satisfied, sis?"
Leah looked at me angrily and said, "It's just a shitty piano piece, who doesn't know how to play it, Jane Wilson what are you being arrogant about?"
I scanned her from head to toe and met her anger with, "Anyone would, so would you?"
"Leah, where did all your condescending capital come from all these years, do you remember? You're so taken for granted, and you're really not afraid of retribution."
I turned to Matt and said in a voice the whole room could hear:
"Some people rightfully spend other people's father's compensation money, bully their own sisters, appear gentle, but are actually vicious and selfish, Leah, don't you think?"
