chapter 1
Lisa POV:
"I am really happy to tell you this." Lisa overheard Doctor Kingston, her boss, say.
I raised my eyebrow waiting for him to continue what he wanted to say.
"You have been assigned to work for a very special man Lisa." My boss continued the smile not leaving his lips.
I looked at him and said in a low voice, "Uh, who are we talking about, please, and why me?"
"Well, you have won best nurse of the year, and This man needs a special nurse, we think you best nurse for that job." stated my supervisor.
I uttered a bewildered, "But I was never told about this,"
"Come on Lisa, I'm telling you now right, would you like the offer or not?" With a furrowed brow, my supervisor questioned.
"Of course, I would be honored to take on this assignment, Doctor Kingston," answered Lisa. "I'm still not sure, though.
Why do they require a nurse like me, and who is this unique patient?"
"I'm happy you're up for the challenge," my supervisor stated, his smile returning.
"I can't tell you too much about the patient, but I can tell you that he is a very important man who needs the greatest treatment available.
Because of your commitment and expertise as a nurse, you have been selected for this assignment.
"This patient is going to require a lot of time and attention, and I know you're up to the task," said Doctor Kingston. "I have complete faith in you."
"He is being held under extremely severe security, so you will have to adhere to all established procedures. Do you feel up to the challenge?"
Lisa inhaled deeply.
"Yes, I'm ready," she declared with a firm and assured voice. "I'm not going to fail you. Just let me know what has to be done."
With satisfaction in his eyes, Kingston nodded.
"I'll brief you on the details of the case, and then you can. "The patient is a man by the name of Ace," Dr. Kingston continued, leaning forward.
"He was engaged in a really serious accident, and he is currently in a coma. We have no idea when or if he will ever wake up, but in the interim, we must take all the necessary steps to maximize his chances of recovery.
That's where you come in," Dr. Kingston said in a serious tone. "You will be the primary nurse responsible for his care, but you will have a team of other nurses and doctors to support you.
We have a whole floor dedicated to his care, and it is staffed 24/7," Lisa said, her brow furrowed in concentration. "What kind of care does he need? Will I be working with a team of other nurses, or will I be on my own?"
You will be responsible for administering his medications, monitoring his vital signs, and providing any other care he may need. You will also need to keep detailed records of his condition and progress."
"I can do that," Lisa said, feeling a little overwhelmed but determined to succeed. "Is there anything else I should know?"
"There is one more thing," Kingston remarked, leaning forward in his chair.
"Ace is a very private person, and we need to respect his privacy. You will not be allowed to share any information about him with anyone outside of the hospital staff. This includes your family and friends. Can you agree to that?" "Yes, I understand," Lisa said. "I will do everything in my power to protect Ace's privacy."
The doctor nodded, a satisfied look on his face. "Thank you, Lisa. I know this is a big responsibility, but it's really important to take care of Mr Ace." My boss mumbled looking around the room.
"When do I start?" I questioned him.
"Well, you have to let me know about that, you could leave today." stated my supervisor.
"But what about what here?" Confused, I wondered, who will replace me?
"I've already taken care of it; go home and collect your belongings, and I'll send your monthly money.
"My supervisor grinned and said.
"I'm grateful for you to accept this Lisa, it means a lot." My supervisor responded, grinning a little at me.
However, all I did was turn to face my office and nod.
I closed the door to my office and inhaled deeply.
Everything was moving so quickly. I wasn't sure if I was prepared for the once-in-a-lifetime chance that had just been presented to me. But I knew I had to give it a shot. It was too late to back down from this.
I began packing up my desk, placing everything I had in a box. My thoughts was racing as I was doing this. The patient and what I would have to do to take care of him continued to cross my mind.
I pondered over his personality and state of health. Above all, I questioned my ability to withstand the stress. It would be difficult for me because I had never worked with a patient who was unconscious before.
But I was committed to giving it my all, for my supervisor as well as the patient.
I took one last glance around the workplace after packing up my desk. I will miss it since I had spent the last few years there as my home.
However, I was aware that this fresh chance was worthwhile. I inhaled deeply before leaving through the door.
I experienced a range of feelings as I moved down the corridor. Nervousness, excitement, and determination. I knew I could overcome this new obstacle, and I was prepared to take it on.
I was prepared for whatever that came my way since I was moving toward a fresh start.
The voyage down to the ground floor in the elevator seemed to go on forever.
I continued trying to get ready for anything by thinking about what lay ahead of me. Upon exiting the elevator and entering the foyer, I experienced an adrenaline surge. I was embarking on a new journey at this point.
