Chapter 1
RUTH’S POV
I hummed as I made my way back home from work as usual. Work has been really busy lately and this time of the year is always busy, but here we go… Never would have thought I would make it home early.
Getting closer to the door, I noticed the door opened a bit, the first question that came to my mind was why Father would leave the door open when he knew it was a festive season in the pack, and as people celebrate so does street boys steal whenever they get the chance.
“Now, tell me why Father would---“ the rest of my words stuck in my throat, refusing to come out when I saw the scene before me.
My heart dropped from my chest and my eyes were wide in shock as I screamed,
“Father!”
I was about to rush towards him when the man who was pointing a gun at my father’s head turned it towards me, and so did the other men in the room. I stood rooted in one spot, frozen. My whole life flashed before my eyes as tears rolled down my cheeks.
My father was kneeling in front of a man, his face covered in blood and he looked weak. He tried to speak, but no words were coming out. I watched him speak to me with his eyes to leave.
“And you must be the daughter of Anthony” a stern and cold voice laced with malice asked. My eyes searched for the voice only to meet the eyes of the man sitting on one of our couches. A gasp escaped my lips,
“Alpha”
“Awn, good thing you know me…” he hummed his words and I swear, I feared for my life just by the way he spoke. Was it a good thing that I knew him or was it a bad thing?
“What… What do you want?” I asked with a shaky voice. Why was he here? What does he want? I have come to know and hear a lot about this man. He wasn’t someone one should play with. He was the Alpha of the pack yet many ran away from him instead of running to him for help.
“What I want is none of your business or else you want it to be…” he replied
“Ruthy dear, leave this to me, I can handle it. Why don’t you go and get me my drugs from the pharmacy, huh?” Father’s shaky voice instructed, but I knew better than to leave here.
They’ll kill him, he wasn’t handling anything, and he looked like shit, there was no way he would come out alive if I decided to leave now. I moved my gaze from father’s pleading one to the Alpha, trying and failing to be bold, I asked,
“What do you want?”
The man had this smile that I wished I could slap off his face, but I dare not. I wasn’t even sure my hand would obey.
“Aren’t you a smart girl…” he stood to his feet. His full height came into view, he was tall and huge. I watched as he walked towards me with slow slides, “How about we make a deal?”
As he spoke those words, his hand reached for my cheek, his huge body covered my strain of sight and I tried not to cower in fear.
“Ruth, you have to get out of here! Do not make any---” I heard a loud thud, no one needed to tell me that they had hit Father again to shut him up.
I blinked and tears rolled down my eyes, staring at the man in front of me, “What deal?”
“You see here, your father happens to owe me a huge amount of money. I had given him time to pay, but he still didn’t, and I am not really a patient man. You can ask around”.
“Owe? My father doesn’t borrow…”
I tried to look at Father who I could clearly hear his cry, but the Alpha didn’t let me.
“Are you calling me a liar?” he asked with a smile, “Hmmm, beautiful Ruthy?”
I shook my head negatively; I dare not call him that, never.
“Then what are you insinuating?” his smile has disappeared and replaced with a deep frown.
I didn’t speak until he roared, “You better speak, or I’ll blow your brain out” and I felt the cold tip of the pistol on my head
I gulped and struggled to reply,
“I… he… he hates…to borrow” my heart thudding in my rib cage as I wished this day would just pass already with everything resolved.
“Can we talk about the deal now?” I asked hoping he would take the pistol off my head, but he didn’t.
“So let’s do it this way” He pointed toward his man with his pistol who immediately picked my father up from the ground and pointed the gun to his head.
“I wasn't the type to revisit my words for changes, but I will do that just this time. I will let you live, but you will give me your daughter as a price” He pulled me with him and forced me on my knees as he sat down on the couch again while I knelt in front of him.
“Please…Please, don’t, no. Involve her out of this” My father tried to beg.
I saw the look in the Alpha’s eyes. They are never going to let go of my father. Alpha Jackson isn't going to leave this place until he has what he wants, and I was not ready to see my father’s corpse in front of me, so I took the bold step.
“Yes! I agree to go with you” I thought I was bold, but my words came out shaking, “Only if you will spare my father’s life”.
“Ruthy, no…!” my father cried, but at the same time I heard the man say with a smile,
“Ruthy, yes… wise choice, my dear… Your father gets to live”.
I may have made a wise decision, but I know I wasn’t so wise after all. Who doesn’t know Alpha Jackson, the horrible, manipulative drug dealer?
