chapter 2

Roselyn Bell

Next morning, I woke up when someone was constantly shaking me.

"Come on Rose! Wake up! We will get late!" I saw Chloe shaking me. She had already dressed. I woke up with a start. I rushed to the bathroom and did my morning business. I then took a warm shower and came out wrapped in a fluffy towel. I quickly wore skinny jeans and a soft pink sweater which Chloe had gifted me last Christmas. It was mid-October and it had started getting chilly. I applied my cream and mascara and left my natural starlight hair open. I took my bag and went out.

"Wow someone wants to look sexy today", Chloe said while sipping her coffee.

"There is nothing sexy about me", I said and sat beside her taking a sip of my coffee.

"Whatever! You are looking good", she said with a chuckle.

"Thanks", I said with a smile.

"Did you see what was there in that envelope? Was it a secret admirer of yours?" she asked with curiosity.

"Oh, that! I forgot to see and why will it be from my secret admirer?" I asked while narrowing my eyes.

"You never know", she said. "Okay take that envelope and we will see it during our lunch hour", she suggested.

"Umm..... okay" I went and took that envelope and went out.

We were now in the car and Chloe was driving. I just didn't feel like driving after whatever had happened the previous night. It was kind of disturbing.

"Are you planning to go or what?" Chloe asked.

"Yes" I got out of the car and she went to park it. When I was entering I saw a fleet of black Ashton Martin. Could it be the same cars from yesterday? Maybe. I thought to myself. So is it possible those people are after me again? I hurriedly turned around to see if anyone was watching me or not. But there wasn't anyone. I quickly entered the building.

"Hey Roselyn! Mr. Davis was asking for you. Please go and meet him", Martha (the receptionist) said.

"Thanks, Martha," I said. I wasn't late I didn't do anything wrong. Last time when I met Mr Davis was when a guest had complained about me. She was such a bitch. I had got a great scolding for it. It wasn't even my fault if her designer mixed up her dress. Mr Davis was one hundred per cent of a badass boss. I went to Mr Davis's office. I knocked on his door and he told me to come in.

"You wanted to see me, Mr. Davis?" I asked him.

"Oh yes, Ms Bell. Mr Rashnikov wanted to see you", he said with an awfully pleasant smile.

"Who is he?" I asked.

"Oh, darling! He is the one because of whom you are working here. Come" he said and led me to the elevator. I was kind of confused.

"Mr Davis, can you please tell me who exactly he is?" I asked.

"Darling he is my boss's boss's boss," he said. "Are you sure you haven't heard of him?" he asked me again.

"No I haven't Mr Davis" I tried not to lose my temper.

We reached the top floor. I had never been to the top floor. It was beautiful. It had chandeliers quite unlike those on the other floors. I heard someone clearing his throat. Urgh, Mr Davis of course.

There were very few offices there. He knocked on a door where 'Adriet Rashnikov' was written. I heard a faint 'come in' and then we entered.

There was a man in a black suit who had a friendly smile and was looking at me. He was at least 6 feet tall. He had brown messy hair and had a tint of mischief in his brown eyes. He was gorgeous I thought until I saw the person sitting on the couch. He had the most mesmerising shade of blue eyes. His tight-fitting suit did no justice in hiding his well-built body. His jet black hair was combed back. He was looking straight towards me. He had that aura that screamed power and money. I was now getting self-conscience.

"Thank you, Mr Davis, you may leave," said the brown eye guy.

"Sure sir," he said and went out. No Mr Davis please don't leave. I wanted to scream. I don't know but I didn't want him to leave.

"Don't worry we won't bite you. Stop looking so scared" said the same guy.

"I am not scared," I said looking straight at him.

"Okay if you say so," he said with a chuckle, "Well I am Ross Miller. Nice to meet you." We shook hands.

"Roselyn Bell," I said.

"We know you, Miss Bell." This time it was the blue eye guy whom I assumed as Mr Rashkolnikov.

"Have a seat. We have to discuss something important." He stood and walked towards his chair. He was very tall. I quickly sat on one of the visitor's chair. And that Ross guy sat on the couch. I didn't want to say anything.

"I'll get straight to the point," he said in his deep voice which sent me shivers down the spine. "Where is the chip?" he asked.

"What chip?" I asked. Why is everyone so obsessed with the chip?

"Don't play games. Tell me where the chip is. You probably don't want to get on my bad side", he said.

"I don't have any chip. Why is every- oh, now I get it. It was you who sent those men behind me and threatened me to give that chip" I was now fuming with anger.

"We didn't send those men" this time it was Ross.

"You didn't?" I asked while raising my eyebrow.

"No we didn't" it was Mr Rashnikov, "we saw everything that happened last night. Just when we were about to attack those men, they backed away," he said with a sigh.

"Okay? So this isn't about my job right?" I asked. Way to go Rose.

"No it isn't," Mr Rashnikov said in a duh tone.

"Oh okay. So, since I don't have the chip, can I go now?" I asked to hope for a yes.

"Not so soon kitty", Ross said. "We want you to really think about it," he said.

"About what?" I asked.

"Did you receive any kind of a letter or envelope stating you name or something?" he asked.

"I don't think so?" It came out as a question.

"BELL!!" Adriet yelled making me flinch, "I want you to think about it" he was angry. Very very angry.

"Ummm...... okay" I tried to think about it but nothing popped in my mind.

"I don't think that I received anything like that," I said while looking at him.

"Are you sure kitty?" Ross asked.

"I guess?" I was not so sure maybe there was something I was missing out. Was it that envelope?

"May I go now Mr Rashnikov?" I asked in my sweetest voice.

"No, you may not," he said in a straight serious tone.

"Why not? I have work to do and I certainly don't want to get fired" I said.

"Bell think about it. You must have received something like that", he asked me again. Should I tell him about the envelope? I think I should.

"Okay, last night when I came back after that incident..." I didn't feel like telling them about it but I had to, so I continued, "there was an envelope which had my name on it. And the strange thing was that it didn't even have my address", I said while looking at my lap the whole time.

"Where is that envelope now?" Ross asked.

"In my bag," I said.

"Go get that envelope, NOW!" Mr Rashnikov commanded.

"Okay you don't have to be so rude", I said that and quickly hurried out of the cabin. I returned with the envelope shortly after.

"Here", I gave them the envelope and Ross snatched it. He tore the envelope. There was a thin black plastic case in it and a folded paper.

"Here" Ross gave me the paper.

"What is it?" I asked while looking at it.

"It's from your father." I froze at that sentence itself.

"Fa-Father?" I stammered.

"Just read it," Adriet said. He was now pissed.

"It-It can't be from my father", I said while looking at it.

"What do you mean?" he asked.

"He's dead," I said in an emotionless tone. My father was a sensitive topic for me to talk about. I had never talked about him to anyone. And here I was talking about him to a complete stranger.

"That's what we were thinking for past 25 years," he said while running his hand through his perfectly combed hair.

"You mean that he isn't dead after all?" I asked.

"We aren't completely sure. We had received a few messages in codes and when we decoded them, we realised they were from John himself. But then again. It could be a fluke too" Ross replied.

"Why did those come to you and what is this chip all about?" I asked. I was frustrated I didn't know what to do. They might be just cooking up their own story.

"We can't tell you that. It's related to our business", Adriet said in a completely business-like tone.

"What did those codes say?" I asked.

"Sorry, kitty we can't tell you that either. For now, just keep it simple that your dad was a trusted man of Adriet's father who had just disappeared like that", he said.

"You sound as if you are accusing him of something. And my dad hadn't disappeared. He had died. He was working for the US special forces." They were making my dad sound like a criminal.

"Died? Really! Do you really think that Ms Bell? Do you think your father had died? How nice of you to think like that", Adriet said with a chuckle. I wanted to ask; I wanted to know what my father did and what connection he had with these people. I wanted to know. But before I could ask them anything, Ross said, "Kitty I think you should go and resume with your work" I didn't have any option but to leave. I still held that paper tight in my hand. I reached my desk and continued with my work.

I thought of reading the letter but I was kind of hesitant but still, I decided to read it anyways. I took the letter went to the restroom.

My hands were trembling while unfolding the letter.

Dear Roselyn

You don't know me but I do know you. Be careful. There are people out there who are my enemy and want to kill me. The chip with this letter is really very important. Be careful to whom you give it to. I will always love you. I tried my best to protect you but I failed as a father. I failed to protect you. I am really sorry. I don't have much time. They will probably kill me. Stay vigilant. Don't tell your mother about it she will probably shatter away don't tell your brother either. I will find my way back to you. And yes don't overthink how I came to know about you. I love and will always will.

Yours lovingly

Dada

I didn't know how to react what he was talking about who are they and most importantly how did he come to know about me. My mother had told me that dada didn't know about me. Because when she found out that she was expecting me my dada had already gone for a secret mission which meant no communication any connection with him. And after that, he never returned. And I think that was the reason why my grandma my uncle aunts and my cousins hate me they see me a bad omen and that really sucks. He said that he will probably get killed.

Adriet.

He was the only one who came up to my mind. I quickly rushed out of the restroom. I hope he is still there in the office.
