Chapter Six

His father was glad he was finally acting responsibly.' How about your fiancee, Gift? Does she know of your plan? Are you going with her or will you come for her later? His parents asked. They of course had heard the rumours and they knew all that had happened, but they were not the type to interfer. They wanted him to make the decision of his personal life by himself without their influence except where necessary. ' That reminds me. It is actually another thing I had wanted to talk to you both about. I want you to go back to her parents the same way you went to ask for her hand in marriage to me, this time it is to break the engagement. I am no longer interested and she has found herself someone else in any case, so the break should be formalised that I may go ahead with my life'.

His parents nodded in understanding and approval.' We shall do as you have requested but hope you have thought very carefully about this?' They enquired 'I have done nothing else but think about it and now I have finally decided that I cannot live with such a person as my wife.' Felix said 'We have heard you and it shall be done' his father promised.' I support your decision' his mother added. So Felix went ahead with his preparation to go-to Lagos. He bought some new shirts and trousers. He already had alot being gifts from his mistresses who had wanted to buy his affection with their competitive gifts.on the appointed day, Felix set out for his destination and by evening that same day, he arrived at his brother' s house.

He had to wait with his neighbours because Peter his brother was not back from work yet. He had been unaware Felix was coming to Lagos else he may not have permitted Felix to come. He was really a very self centered man who cared for none other than himself. When Peter got home that day, he was surprised. But since he could do nothing about it, he reluctantly welcomed him and immediately set to the task of informing Felix his likes and dislikes. Being determined to make a niche for himself in Lagos, Felix endured all the inhumane treatments his brothersubjected him to in a bid to frustrate him into going back to the village. Felix''s determination won. There too he made alot of friends but this time he had no mistresses just platonic friendships. He had heard through the grapevine that Samuel who had taken his fiancee from him was a very diabolic and fertish man.Though he could believe it. Samuel looked the part but he was past caring. Whether he had got Gift through diabolic means or not was no longer his business. As far as he was concerned, they deserved each other. Good riddance to bad rubbish, he thought to himself. As far as he was concerned, he had matured mentally and was now better able to master his feelings and emotions. He felt he was wiser now and would determine from henceforth his response to all life situations not the other way round.
